awww well I guess that bird lives to see another day before another hungry kitty eats it. How do you know it was a feral cat and not just a naughty, hungry outdoor kitty? that bird might have been intended as both a snack AND a present for its owner. :D

That bird was obviously someone's pet that flew the coop. Good job rescuing it from the cat... which can find another source of food. Maybe the cat can ask for handouts in front of CVS or some other business on State... or at the beginning of freeway onramps... seems to work for a lot of the "other" cats in this town.

231252 If that cat can't find anything else to eat then it isn't very fit, is it? And Darwin's "survival of the fittest" is descriptive, not prescriptive ... there is no basis for arguing that human ethics should be ruled by it. And it is generally misunderstood -- in biology, fitness has nothing to do with violence or ruthlessness, it is a measure of the ability of an organism or population of organisms to produce viable offspring. The most fit cats are those that have taken advantage of human society by becoming domesticated.

OP here. Calm down people. I feed the feral cats. They had already had breakfast and they'll have dinner too. No need to eat birds in my neighborhood.

Thanks Angelica for your good dead! Please don't listen to those negative posters, as I believe the majority of us are happy to read about your heroism. (Not only in saving the bird, but in feeding the wild cats.) Smile.

So ANGELICA is feeding feral cats. Wonderful. I assume you also feed the raccoons and opossums. I'm glad I don't live next door to you.

Good job. And what's with these new negative posters? I see a pattern of two of them commenting on everyone's posts and finding something nasty to say on any topic. This isn't the site for that.

Ecologists and wildlife advocates want domestic cats out of native environments, because of their destruction to other native wildlife including birds, rodents, small mammals, lizards and other creatures. Cats hunt whether they are hungry or not. Keeping the kitties (introduced by us and then abandoned) in the wild and citing "survival of the fittest" dooms both them and the local song birds. Not to mention lizards.

Cockatiels escape and get eaten by hawks often. They flail and squeal when they fly and make easy targets. This one is lucky you found him. I always feel sorry for the owners who post lost bird signs. Cockatiels are usually eaten within minutes of escaping. I've seen it myself.

Feral cats should be euthanized, not fed. They do a lot of damage to wildlife.
