Definitely, Jerry Sortomme is one of the "Good Guys".. I knew him years ago when I was first starting the landscaping of the Hollister medians. Both he and Dave Gress met with me in front of what was then Bottiani's to decide on the plantings, both sustainable and water resistant. Jerry also served as judge for the Goleta Beautiful awards committee. SBCC and the horticulture students have been very fortunate to have him as a mentor and leader in his field.
