She's darling... I want one! How did you track her down in Victorville? (and why on earth did someone give her up!?)

I drove to Bakersfield last week to rescue a dog...so I understand. My girl is still terrified, sadly. The shelter environment is hardly "sheltering" for most of the dogs held there. You and your new girl are both very fortunate. Congratulations!

We drove to Lancaster for Pixel, our little shelter mutt. It took several months for her to come out of her under-loved shell, but she is a happy dog now. To answer EAUPHORIA: The internet, Petfinders, as I recall.

Gracie IS an angel. I took her for walks the first couple weeks she was "home" and I too couldn't believe anyone could give up such a sweetie. Which only proves there are very good dogs available in shelters waiting to be matched with their very own perfect new family :)

Anyone concerned about the large number of pets that are being brought in from other counties while our own local pets sit in shelters waiting for homes?

656, no. I'm concerned about all dogs and other pets who are abandoned and in need of homes. I'm happy to hear when any of them are rehomed and taken care of.

You prefer to see our County Animal Shelter needing to euthanize more pets because so many are coming in from other areas?

There are hundreds of pets (dogs and cats) being brought in to Santa Barbara County by rescues and other well intentioned people. Each one of these dogs and cats takes a home when they are adopted that a pet sitting in a County Shelter or a Humane Society needs. Unfortunately, euthanasia rates at our own shelters rise since homes can't be found for them all. I think this is an issue that the local animal community should be thinking and talking about.

Perhaps if our own shelters werent so overloaded with pit bulls and chihuahuas people would feel they had a local choice.also some of the inland empire shelters are extremely high kill and so rescuing otherwise adoptable dogs like Gracie is a humane thing to do.
