As dog owner and frequenter of the beach that I'm fairly sure you are referring too, I agree that it is frustrating when people don't feel the rules pertain to them, but as adults you should know that people are and will continue to be selfish and self-centered. Your silence, however, in my opinion, greatly negates the validity of your complaint; you don't have to be confrontational or argumentative to voice your objections to the offending owners. A simple "Excuse me, but your dog (who's in an "on-leash" area) is invading our place. Could you please control it?" and "Excuse me but your dog (who's in an "on-leash" area) just left something for you over there." would have likely taken care of any of your concerns. Again, these types of owners are selfish and self-centered, but this is not a surprise to you and you should have anticipated it going to that beach.

Dog lovers are really narcissists and their love for their dogs is an extension of their love for themselves.

It is long overdue for the basic environmental, public health and safety laws regarding dogs to be enforced. Not only for human health, but for the health of the environment and non-man made animals.

My dog and I rarely go to beaches where folks bring picnics. Snout-level human food is just too tempting, and I'd rather enjoy our time together than have to monitor where she is every second. And yes, I pick up her poop.

I am a dog lover who walks on that beach. I keep my dog on a leash and pick up poop. I try my best to keep him away from people and other dogs unless the people or dogs express interest. I am sometimes annoyed by the off leash dogs but not always. I would be annoyed if I was trying to eat and someone was letting their dog come sniff my food and poop nearby.

Leaving poop without scooping it is against the SB Municipal code. Animal Control will take the complaint and make a report if you are willing to sign and have a way for them to contact the dog owner who is leaving poop behind.

The Park Rangers at this beach make an effort to walk down the beach and make owners leash their dogs. Unfortunately they can't be there all the time. Sorry your picnic was molested by the insensitive, law flouting dog owners. We walk our dogs on the off leash area and clean up after them. I am always amazed at the owners who pretend not to see the poop, they are lousy actors as well as rude.

Thanks 136 for the gross generalization of dog owners. Jerks come in both animal-loving and non-animal-loving forms. In fact, I find many people with young children seem to suffer from the same kind of myopia.

I have taken my dogs to the beach I think you are referring to and I have seen the people who break the rules. Mine are on-leash in the area they are supposed to be on-leash and I clean up not only their poop but any other poop I come across.

On that same beach, I had a boxer race up to me and one of my dogs and promptly pin down my dog and threaten it. I yelled to the owner who was looking the other way and who blithely wandered over and leashed her dog and then let it off leash again about 15 feet past us. Unbelievable.

It is amazing that so many people treat beaches as great big litter boxes.

This is a problem all over town and tolerance of these law breakers is irritating to other pet owners as well. There are times and places in various parks in town where dogs can be off the leash but many dog owners are like Eric Cartman, "I do what I want". Get a clue!

It's amazing what bone heads these people are. "You don't understand that my dog is different and special..." We all feel that way but that doesn't mean you can let your animal run free where others are eating or peole are walking heir dogs on a leash.

I'm a respectful dog owner and lover but there are people out there that just shouldn't have dogs because they give us all a bad reputation ! If you're going to be a pet owner follow the rules, take care of your pet and clean up after them.

I love dogs but some dog owners are so inconsiderate. It really annoys me to see dog owners not picking up their dog's poop. If I see one not doing this, I will even go across the street and remind them they need to pick up their dog's poop. Most of them will apologize and say they forgot to bring a bag. I pull out a bag from my purse and give it to the dog owner!

As a dog owner, I agree. It kills me when I see people leaving dog poop everywhere or worse, letting an unsocialized dog off leash to run up to other people and dogs when it's not a dog that should be off leash.

I do want to point out that the majority of dog owners are considerate and do pick up the mess. I think it's just really glaringly obvious when people don't so it sticks out in our minds and can seem like the majority because we don't take notice when people are doing what they are supposed to do.

There are some good and conscientious dog owners out there but as in any barrel it's the rotten apples that define it. Irresponsible people get away with being rotten apples because no one tells them otherwise. Sure there are those who will go right back to doing what they were doing before your intrusion into their narcissistic reverie but eventually someone will clock in a reality check. It's really up to everyone to confront these scofflaws and complete the parenting they never got at home.

Included in my rant is the bagging up of poop only to leave these bags on the beach. I mean, c'mon! At least the poop will decompose under some child's foot or beach blanket but the bagged waste will float in the ocean for years to come.

I think the beach is one of the worst places to leave dog poop. Nice thing for some little child digging in the sand to find....I love dogs, and I have had one for years. I always pick up after her, and I always carry at least 3 bags in my pocket, but I rarely confront a scofflaw. I don't want to be the victim of some crazy person's tirade. You never know how people will react to such comments. They really give the rest of us a bad name. I also upsets me to no end that bad owners have ruined CA state parks for all dog owners.

A walked dog = a pooping dog = dog owner needing a poop bag.

Can anyone who walks/exercises their dog not anticipate the poop that results? Dog owners that leave home without a poop bag or two stretch credibility when they say they forgot a bag. What they are saying is that they don't accept responsibility for their dog. Come on people, you can always find something in a trash can to use to pick up after your dog! You say you do not want to dig in trash. Then don't forget the "darn" bag!

Frequently when I walk in my favorite park on Micheltorena St. I see a young man bring a large black pit bull across Garden St. into the park. He walks the dog arround the park until it deposits a rather large pit poop and then returns home with never a gesture to pick up after his dog. Thankfully he keeps his dog on a leash but also this keeps this young man close to the dog so he must see the poop. I definitely would not want to try training this dog owner to be responsible. So a large volume of pit poop continues to impact this beautifull park. So sad.

Would throwing poop at an irresponsible dog owner be assualt? Of course, letting your dog poop near my picnic is assualt too, isn't it?

Gosh, a lot of bad parenting has gone on, leading to this type of behavior by the dog owners. Anarchy is what people demand here in Santa Barbara. There should be no rules, so all the hip people can just do what the heck they want with immunity.
