Wow, cool sighting. The growl must have been a little...intimidating. I'm glad you didn't lose your head and also managed to get us this fantastic picture.

It's the wild out there, folks. They have way more right to be there than we do, but if we keep our calm like this poster, most often things will be fine. Though I have to say, this is one reason never ever to have your dog off leash ahead of you on a trail. It only takes one time.

I almost always have my dogs off leash when on trail. Yes, freedom is dangerous, but way better than the alternative.
BTW, a hundred years ago, "wildcat" may have meant not a bobcat, but a mountain lion.

Yes, I'm sure "wildcat" in the story referred to a mountain lion. Bobcats normally wouldn't pounce on, or chase, a human. Great stories, thanks for sharing both!
