sounds like things are shakin and MOVIN--in a good direction. Now you can utilize some of that charisma and those 'crazy' ideas to influence people both inside and outside the edhat/SB realm. Good on YOU! go fer it! Looking forward to your Fine Gardening blog.

Wow - you have not only made lemonade from the lemons, but you’ve made Italian Lemon Ice, Chicken Piccata, and a Lemon Meringue Pie! I’d say good job well done and thanks for all you have done for the City!

This article rocks. In a nutshell, it's a reminder that if you focus on what you have lost, what you can gain will just waltz on by you. A little secret: The glass is ALWAYS half full to brimming. Thanks for this splash of inspiring lemonade, Billy.

Billy - I never had a doubt. You told me about the national gig and I really hope that happens for you. The "Fine" family of magazines is a real score, I have perused Fine Cooking and Fine Woodworking (sent to me by mistake, obviously). Have a walloping good time with all of this - Signed: Nancy W. Great article, Billy. You've worked so hard in so many arenas all these years, I'm so glad you are finally being rewarded. I guess the Python's had it right all along. Always look on the bright side of life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHPOzQzk9Qo

Just wanted to say thanks for writing this article and reminding us all that as one door closes, another (and sometimes even better) door opens. I feel like people don't talk about these things enough. A few years back, I was let go from a job and I thought my life was OVER. But with a little patience, a little luck, and a LOT of persistence, I ended up here in beautiful Santa Barbara with an amazing job, and also met the love of my life. It's really important to share these stories of how we get to the other side during hard times, especially right now, so thanks again. :)

Billy Goodnick here. Garsh! What a lovely outpouring. I'm so glad this has been an enjoyable article for so many readers. Lemonade indeed. I'm not much at algebra, but I know that if a half-full glass of lemonade gets on a northbound train heading into a 12 mph headwind and a chicken leaves Milwaukee on a Greyhound bus in a 1/3 empty glass with a 20% solution of 7-Up, then, then, then...never mind. Like I said, no good at algebra. Thanks for the luuuuuv, y'all. Listening to Dylan singing Watch the River Flow....very apropos.

Congratulations to you, and while you say you don't normally write musings I have to say its one of the better ones Ive read in a long time. Hopefully it just keeps getting better and better, although with your wife kid and dog you already have the fundamentals down. Thanks for sharing the positive story.

The projects you named (the ones I've seen, at least) are among my favorite sites in the city. If you had a dollar for every hour my family and I have spent happily hanging out at Kids' World and Alice Keck Park Park ... well ... I don't want to make this another algebra problem but you could definitely buy some more lemons! Thanks for all you've done for the City. Best wishes for your future!
