Thank you! Thank you, too, for making the effort to have the reports readable. It is interesting as to whether there is more crime now than there was in the 70's or 80's or whether we are simply more aware of it, what with the internet and cellphones. I walk around, including at night (but not late at night) and have not had any problems; however, in the past I have had my car broken into and stereos stolen. But also I now see more police and, of course, more homeless and transients. Last evening around 6, for instance, there were about 8 police, three police cars, at the foot of Stearns Wharf for no discernible reason.

I could not figure out what they were up to they were doing something under the warf. Maybe having a Fiesta party of their own. What ever it was required a boat from Harbor Patrol..

There was a lot of crime during those decades never brought to the public's attention, including gang related ones. You say SB has changed in 20 years? Try 50 years. I could weep.

I've been in SB since 1979 and downtown is no where near what it was like even back then. But since change is the only constant any where in the universe the only thing that matters is the type, good or bad. Because of blogs like Edhat we get see it every day and we get to evaluate every day. Given that it does seem to me that a lot of change recently is not for the good. MHO only.

Crime nationally is near historic lows. Ever hear of the "Recency Effect?" It's a cognitive bias in which people see recent developments are more significant/important than events that transpired in the past. IE, when you bite into a really tasty donut, you think "OMG..this is the best donut I ever tasted!" Objectively, of course, you could have eaten a donut that was 100x better 20 years ago, but your brain prioritizes more recent experiences.

Roger Don't let the negative comments in the criticism section slow you down Keep up the great work Most of us appreciate the time you spend trying to keep us informed Sure some of the stuff you hear and post might turn out to be meaningless, but when something of local interest does occur, we nearly always hear about it from you first.

I don't know if all the crime was downtown over the weekend, but by the looks of it, every cop in the tri-county area was on State St.

The police were apparently at the wharf to prevent the Cruiser parade of bicyclists from jumping off the pier after their wharf to IV and back ride.

The police were there to keep bikes off the wharf -- "Bikes aren't allowed in this area", they said to a lone rider. I'm not sure what legal authority they could have for a blanket ban on bikes.

Every call involves a person, by no means meaningless. Roger, your report is scarier when you don't use amusing words. Very scary. I hope people find the help they need. As the population increases, so do the reports of craziness.

Poor "Dennis." This was almost like having a chopper overhead. What drama. We love you, Roger, and thanks for the service. Sometimes when the sirens go wailing past here where I live now I think reflexively of Edhat and Roger, and then feel wistful.

I apologize for my complaint about your 3rd grade bathroom humor and overboard use of snot. It has been awhile since I read the scanner report and did not realize you had cleaned up your act. Could care less about errors or misspelled words, I do think you were getting carried away and thought it was cute instead of disgusting. Now that you are trying to be of help with your service I really appreciate what you do. Thank You. This Report was great!
