I find the "F" word to be a very beautiful word.

i LOVE taos. as in i would live there if i could. it has the most magical amazing vibe. i would recommend staying a few nights at the mabel dodge luhan house, in tonys room. mabels story is fascinating and you can see the cross that georgia okeefe painted from one of the bathrooms. DH stayed at her house as did many other talented writer and actors and artists. taos also has incredible food and the best margaritas i have ever had. love love love taos! you just need to explore...

Well! I guess I got told!
Maybe we'll go back and try again sometime. Throw in Los Alamos and see some cliff dwellings again.
Thanks for writing.

You didn't look hard enough. In addition to Taos Pueblo, the town itself has some great museums. It's very walkable - a fun place to get lost. You never know what will be around the next corner. It's a lot less pretentious than Santa Fe. Great galleries & shopping & some good eating too.

Yes, one can photograph the pueblo without paying to go onto the grounds, but evolved people don't out of respect for the culture. If you don't get that, then don't go.

As to O'Keefe's house, you will find it in Abiquiu. Quite a bit more distant than 50 miles. Lots to do in Taos, but you have to be willing to give up your apparent need for strip malls and big box stores. I could list them all, but since so many folk are just too plain lazy to discover things for themselves, I won't offer my considerable legwork.

Santa Fe pretentious? Sure, if you say so. But if you really feel the need to compare Taos with SF, then the pretentiousness you speak of might be more clearly found in your mirror.

Excellent galleries in both cities, fascinating histories, and when visiting Indian dwellings and reservations, remember to show a little respect.
