Gotta love Edhat for all the little nuggets of knowledge we receive. Yad: A Jewish ritual pointer, used to point to the text during the Torah reading from the parchment Torah scrolls.

i thought that a yad was a measurement of 3 feet to someone from boston! or the grassy area in front of a bostonian's house. (hey, go get the paypah from the yad!)

Yard came to mind right away, and then it hit me, where are all the yardsticks? My mom always had one because she sewed our clothes, I thought I had one, but all I could scrounge up were the three rulers!
