I don't believe you can spare a piece of your mind. Keep it for a doorstop - or a speed bump!

So you didn't fully stop and almost hit someone and you think they are being rude?

Yeah, what a rude jogger - she might crash into one day and do some real damage. But that won't happen, since you 'never' see anyone that early, allowing you the opportunity to not even fully stop at a stop sign. More importantly, though, is your desire to find this person later and teach her a lesson, that she certainly needs.

It's all about the honk. A "tap tap" (beep beep) and friendly smile and demure wave, and all is usually well. Leaning on the horn and a "Whut!?" look...not so good. Play your cards right, and you can get anyone to smile back.

Why the honk? Why not just stop like you are supposed to and let her cross? No need for early-morning beepin'....

Let's see, failure to STOP at a stop sign, honking at a pedestrian who had RIGHT of WAY. This is why I hate walking around in SB, drivers don't understand the rules of the road.

Give us the name of the intersection so we can let the authorities know about the problem of rolling stops in the early morning. They'll be happy to solve this problem for you.

Just a minor misunderstanding. Your holding onto this may be an anger problem on your part. Better check yourself for bitterness and unnecessary anger that holds onto you. Seems to me like she was being extra cautious. When in doubt that a cyclist might go forward, just stop in your tracks, completely, smile, and wave her on, then WAIT for her to pass on through the intersection, then make your turn. But please, no more road rage which seems to be the problem here. Let the anger go, and be grateful that nothing awful happened.

I think the OP just got a good old fashioned dose of Native SB justice! I'd like to know the intersection too so I can watch the SBPD arrest him!

step aside folks, native SantaBarbaran here---ummm, I think the driver here is unaware of the no-honk-unless-it's-an-emergency rule in these parts. She should have rolled her window down and shouted to the jogger. Ms.Driver, don't obsess. Have a great rest of your day!

All great responses! I do feel sorry for the driver, definate mental attitude problem; anger, low self-esteem which brings up ego overload. If this happens early in the AM inagine how the day progresses. Wouldn't you just love working with/for him???

As an early morning Runner ~ what a lovely gesture ~ Very few early morning and we are talking 5:30 6:00 6:30 drivers even stop at stop signs or red lights, they just continue on as if no one is watching ~ you are like a rare white rino. And for the "Drivers" who Fail to Stop before the Crosswalk white Line, and just park themselfs there as if the person crossing within the lines are in their way! So so many inconsiderate drivers, oh yes back to the early morning driver... Please no honking, it can be quite startling, ~ I don't use headphone or ear buds, music, just listen to the sounds around me and all the lovely voices and thoughts in my head. So keep on being courteous ~ Good Karma is in your future.

I was once told to look before I turn. I wonder if the original poster was turning before she looked and was startled by the presence of the jogger. If that's the case, I recommend reversing the order of the actions.
