I can never understand why people subject themselves to this type of situation.

Won't be too many years before your niece is lying about her age in the other direction to drink and get into clubs. She'll be sure to remind everyone how her parents lied about her age at Disneyland and how that was ok, so what's the big deal. Consequences, people!

Tell your sister-in-law, “Practice what you Preach, or stop Preaching.”

Ask you sister-in-law if she is ready to be grandmother in about 5 years. That's what you get when your kids don't understand the word "no."

"Honesty is the best thing there is".... until it concerns your wallet I suppose. Just thank your lucky stars you're NOT married to her. You reap what you sow, as the saying goes.

I don't think they're owed the difference of the ticket by you. Assuming you're a real person, I DO think you're owed a real answer by Edda.

HI 156 I have finally realized Edda doesn't give real answers ~ it used to really annoy me the first few times I read Edda but, then I realized she's just a cover for getting others to give the real answers through comments and now I am amused by her responses. By the way in response to letter ~ sounds like they wasted their day/ energy being mad over something so trivial and if they practiced what they preached it wouldn't have happened ~ not to mention their daughter gave her self up...were they mad at her too? Silliness

Why did you go to Disneyland in the first place with her? No surprise who she is and how she chooses to raise her kids - why go and complain all day? Please take responsbility for yourself and quit complaining about others. And pay her the difference for subjecting her to your negativity.

Clearly the first, and only, important mistake made here was going to Disneyland to begin with. This kind of force-fed happy-happy place is sickening. The epitome of everything that is wrong with America. And to dump over a grand for a day visit for a family of four, while being forced to wait in 2+ hour lines for a mediocre ride is ludicrous. If Disneyland burned to the ground tomorrow it would be too soon..

wow, highlander (are you "really" scottish?), that seems a tad harsh. Some of my fondest (and only) memories are from going to Disneyworld, Bush Gardens...etc. as a kid. Nothing wrong with it once in a while, its kindve a"rite of passage" for us Uhmurikans and all. Funny, I have gone to like twenty years of Earthdays and dont recall a single one more than a day later, but trips to Dineylan and the beach and camping with the 'rents I remember forever

Have you noticed you cannot sit down at Disneyland unless you are paying for it? In other words no nice benches or places to rest, unless you sit on a curb. We took our kids there when they are 8 and 11, with another family, and about 3 in the afternoon, the adults all looked at each other and said "Is this all there is?" and we left. Never been back, don't miss it!

Disneyland is the home of so many of my happy childhood memories and we love bringing our children there annually. It's about the kids, not the adults! The look of wonder in a child's eyes is priceless (although, I agree the prices have gone sky high). The park is spotless (so much better kept than any other amusement park) and if you can go midweek not during school holidays, you can almost walk on most rides. So grownups - don't be so grumpy and let the kids have their fun! p.s. The sister in law sounds obnoxious - you don't owe her anything:)

I must say that having just returned from D'world, I read Ask Edda and subsequent comments with some amusement. I am in my 60s, my kids are grown so this latest visit was a walk down memory lane. Banners proclaimed my arrival at the "Happiest Place on Earth" and exhorted me to "Let the Memories Begin". In line for a certain ride, a young woman clutching her 2 (3?) year old hissed loudly at her partner with positive venom: "I HATE your f--king brother".

As kids, when Disneyland was new, my dad would respond to our pleadings with "We'll go next year, they'll have more rides." Then every spring, the day school got out, we'd finish packing the boat and car and head out up old 99 for 3 weeks camping, fishing, hiking and water skiing at Lake Shasta. Father really DID know best! Thanks so much for NOT taking us to D-land! Next time, folks, give your kids the gift real outdoor activity, not some fake reality designed to empty wallets.

For the benefit of the child, I would tell her how proud you are of her to tell the truth, and to keep on telling the truth, and if she continues to tell the truth, what a wonderful niece she would be to you. Someone she knows has to be her rock, and with this advice at an early age, she will always come to you for advice, and she will see her own mothers true colors. She needs your full support. She is lucky to have you, Don't ever give up on this child, as you can see where she could end up. Not to put the burden on you, but I myself would take that burden on, being an aunt. Best wishes to you Auntie
