We go up that way a lot. This year is especially good because of all the rain and snow in the Southern Sierras. In drought years, Lake Isabella was pretty dismal and the mountains were mostly brown. I'm sure the Kern River rafting companies will be having a banner year!

Silver linings, making lemonade out of lemons, etc. Thanks for sharing the pics of beautiful county and your positive attitude. Kudos

Know the area well. Used to camp along the Kern and upper Kern river but it can be a treacherous river. In the summer months they used to have a sign coming up into that area listing the number of deaths to that date either from riding the rapids or in Lake Isabella.

thanks--always wondered what Lake Isabella looked like. Next time, try to make it up to the hamlet of Bodfish, and take more photos to show us!

@207, the sign is there all year round. When we first started going up there more than 20 years ago, I think it was around 140 lives lost. Now it's well over 200. Doesn't seem to matter how many times you warn people, they see what looks like a calm river and go in.
