Eating beef bologna is not going to kill your grandmother. She wanted it and you callously disregarded her wishes. Oh the insufferableness of this new superstitious, junk science fed generation. That is the diet you ignore.

Geez, she's ninety! Leave her diet alone, she's earned the right to eat what she likes. Go get the poor woman some beef bologna, please! You can eat the turkey stuff yourself if you think it's so much healthier.

I don't blame her for hating this glorified cat food! Ugh. At 95 she has lived longer than the average so leave her alone to whoop it up, kid, and attend to your own gruesome diet.

My 90 year old mother eats cookies, pies, cakes, butter, sugar, ice cream, red meat, chicken, cured bacon, etc. So did my Dad and Grandma, both of whom lived into their 90s too. Exercise is key, as is genes and attitude. At their age, they've earned the right to eat anything they darned well want. If she asks you to get her ice cream bon-bons, do it, and don't make them low fat!

At 90, she's likely not to be done in by beef bologna. Or anything she eats. Why? Because she ate food for the majority of her life that was free of the crap that's in it now. It's not junk science, our food is so much worse than your grandma's food was and if we ate like she did for the first 65 years of her life, then we'd be ok with occasionally eating sugar, starches and fat. But now it's not even close to being ok to eat those things.

Oh good grief, they have been putting additives into food for decades. Most of granny's life she has been exposed to chemicals, side-stream smoke and even radiation to check her shoe size. She used coal tar hair dyes with and probably topped off her CoolWhip with a FDC Red Dye #2 maraschino cherry. She has been eating TV dinners done in a microwave for at least 50 of her 90 years too. Plus she suffered the wave of drug all women with hormones, which started back in the 1950s'. Only junk science now fed as a steady diet in today's schools in lieu of education make young people today think they have a monopoly on the "Truth", which is just a smoke screen to hate corporate America and their own flush life-styles. Granny lived to be 90 in spite of her steady diet of chemicals and additives, so maybe they were doing something good for her. Stop romanticizing the purity of the "past" when you know nothing about it.

She's 90+. Watch her eat for a week and then follow that diet yourself.

Granny lived in a house with lead paint. She drove a car with leaded gas. She risked a slew of childhood diseases including polio and TB. She ate far more hydrogenated margarine and lard, than butter too. Accent (MSG) dressed up most of her vegetables and Betty Crocker fed her often from a box. She was only a young lady when the word smog first came into her vocabulary. She was downstream from acid rain and most likely downwind from all the post WWII nuclear testing. Yeah, the healthful purity of her 90 years on our planet is vastly misrepresented. She is far more an example if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger. How did everyone get so namby-pamby freaky about the world around them today, where they can't even be around someone wearing perfume or eating peanuts? Never heard of such things in the Goode Olde Dayes.

switching bologna at this age is not going to make any difference in how long she lives now ~ let her just enjoy her life and what she likes....she's ninety! Is this a joke letter?

916 and 927 - Not so fast, you can't make sweeping generalizations about health while throwing out things like "she has been eating TV dinners done in a microwave for at least 50 of her 90 years". Well my grandma did that too, she had diabetes and eventually dementia, and passed away at 70. Before you get a kick out of putting the younger generation in their place for questioning the potential source of some of the health problems we face today, just know that "corporate america" could do a little more to protect the well being of its citizens. how about putting an end to subsidized gmo corn to make high fructose con syrup and other corn derivatives - the elephant in the room.

Honor your Grandma by giving her what she wants. One day, it will be YOU with YOUR cravings and desires. Be smart, and indulge her without any arguments or hesitations.

The original sweeping generalization was stating Granny lived so long because her life was pure and healthy, without all of today's modern contaminants. Context. Context. Context.

I just bought my 90 year old father a cherry pie. And he eats ice cream, lunch meat, and anything else he wants. At this point I'm not about to preach to him about his diet. He lived as healthy a life as he could. Now he should be able to eat whatever the heck he pleases, he just wants to enjoy the rest of his life. Just let your grandmother make her own choices for goodness sake.

The market desires High Fructose Corn Syrup. People pay for it and growers grow it, subsidies or not. Boycott it and let the manufacturers who use it in their products know why you will no longer buy it. Stop blaming government when consumers are the ones who control the existence of any of these products. Starve out bad behavior. Shun bad behavior. Model good behavior. Stop blaming. Start living. And stop telling other people what to do. Stop voting for those who keep extending farm subsidies.

No one desires HFCS except the barons of big business and government that profit from it. The difference between me and you - you think that those who don't know better can't and shouldn't do better. And there is a hefty profit in that. It's what our system depends on. Hegemony, dominance, we win and they lose, we know better and they don't.
