Thank you for this. I've wanted to ride it, but hesitated to leave my car on Modoc -- starting from Goleta Beach sounds like more fun.

Vie and George Obern spent years working to get that trail and were so proud to have it named Obern. At the grand opening they rode a bicycle for two through the yellow ribbon. Vie has worked for many, many years to preserve and establish trails for hiking and horses in the hills.

In addition to serving Goleta Beach and Modoc, it's become a vital part of the commute to UCSB. Great to know more about the history of a trail I ride so often.

I love the Obern trail ride, do it several times a week. It is part of a very nice commute between UCSB and downtown. Thank you for the wonderful description--I have seen that cat often. I wonder if the owners will tell us its name. I will have to check out the historical house and horse ranch. Many, many thanks to the Oberns for their work to have this enrichment of our community made!

If you head south from Goleta Beach you'll go straight into the ocean. The bike trail technically heads ENE.
