Thank you, Neal. I wonder if the old Christian Science Church building on Anacapa is an official City Landmark. If not, it certainly should be. I hope Neal will be able to provide further historic photos as the urban hikers continue their exploring.

KDEF - as of the latest posted City info (January 2006) 1435 Anacapa is not a Landmark, Structure of Merit or a Potential Landmark. The Stewart House at 2024 Anacapa has been designated as a Potential Landmark. -Neal

Neal and his sister Erin are Santa Barbara treasures. They know so much about our history and are always researching for more knowledge. Plus, they make it fun.

My paternal grandfather, James Steven, bought this house for back taxes in the 1940's. He converted it to the "Steven Apts" where he lived with his second wife until he passed in 1962. His widow, my step grandmother, lived there until the mid-seventies, when she decided to sell it because of the expensive upkeep. We used to go visit them every summer for 3 weeks and we got to stay in the 3rd floor apartment. Wonderful memories. The inside of the house is even cooler that the outside! I am looking for more old photos of this house, if anyone has them, please contact me at burke571@comcast.net. Thanks.
