Thanks for more information! I had no idea about the Sunday roasts. We love their fish and the roasts sounds yummy too. Did Mac's explain the odd time of service though, 2pm - 5pm? I guess with planning it would be do-able but I'd think it would be around dinner time (beginning at 5). Or is it just this Sunday to make it jive with a traditional Thanksgiving?

My guess on the time is it's a real Sunday dinner, old fashioned time being mid-day. Supper would be a light meal later. Or, maybe they like to close early on Sunday.

Great article! I work just a few doors down from Mac's and have (shamefully) not visited them yet. I will now!

Two o'clock is the traditional time for Sunday dinner - another example of Mac's doing a fine job of honouring British culture!

Dear Mrs. Lemonjelly,
Loved reading about the food! Have to check it out. By the way, it would be fun knowing where you were staying in England and more about what it was like there.

Thank you for the information on Mac's. Good fish and chips has been hard to find since H. Salt's folded. You got me drooling!

Grew up in an English (expats) household and I know all about lamb and mint sauce, lol.

Also have a friend who was Cordon Bleu trained chef up in Masham, Yorks. He couldn't sell his bistro meals, so he became a chippie. Mooshey pays were a standard. He used to joke about his motto- "If you bring em oop, bring em back!" thank goodness I never had to try them, my folks veg of choice in winter was horse beans, gleaned from local Santa Clara Valley fruit orchards, where they were grown as a winter green manure crop. Pretty Awful.

Will try the F&C here--thanks for your investigations!

Try the haggis. It's deep fried delight.

The owner knows customer service. Very cool addition to SB. My 7 year old loved it.
