I can't believe she would lie to her husband like that! I make great pie, but have never had my name on a menu.

I think flour and sugar are two other ingredients that go into apple pie.

Edda is the queen of advice columns, she is syndicated in 4, 997 Newspapers across the United States, every week. She is very popular Edhat was very lucky to become the 4,997 publication to gain entry to her vast knowlede. I think apples go in apple pie also.

I don't know if it was this week's Edda or the one with the turtle that I liked more. Good one!

Roger: I don't get it, and I'm being sincere here so I hope the edhat Nanny doesn't edit this like my other statement you can read on the violations page. What exactly is it about Edda's advice that you think is so great? I really want to know...all I usually read are super-short non-committal comments rather than helpfull insights or advice. Take this latest one for example...what's that about? The woman posed a sincere scenario, and all she got was a vaguely humorous and fairly inscrutable response that hints at deeper meanings without delivering. This isn't my idea of helping the person, and seems rather to entertain everyone else at their expense. What ever happened to straight-up relevant answers that help?

I don't know if Edda is for real, an authentic all - American apple pie original, but I do find the readers' comments entertaining!

Dear pastry chef, you have a huge problem on your hands. You can not admit to the lie about making your own apple pie, so there is only one thing to do, you must quit your job and turn you and your whole family's life upside down and go into the absolutely cutthroat brutal food prep biz that is apparently your husband's dream. I suggest getting a subscription to the Food Network on TV and start learning how to cook! Also, there is a program called "24 Hour Restaurant Challenge" that will surely give you some ideas. Also, just to be on the safe side, you need to brush up on bankruptcy law. Did I mention how brutal the restaurant biz is?....or....you could tell your husband "no" ....its your call!

499P - I completely agree with you. The only thing to do is to punt. Quit your job a week earlier than you tell your husband, so you can stay at home and watch the food network for a week. That should help. Good luck. =)

My dad would only make his special dishes if my mom bought all the ingredients, sliced and diced, and then cleaned up afterward. Dads used to have it so good, didn't they?

just keep the item on the menu but have the servers say" sorry, it's so popular we sold the last slice an hour ago." and make sure your hubby brings home dinner to you.

Forget the pie-that's so minor. What is major is that only 20% of all new restaurants make it past the first year! Keep your job! Help with advertising from home in your free time-give-aways, etc. Get on the phone with civic clubs, fund raisers, etc. Sell, sell, sell!

I agree with 119506 and 119531, don't quit your day job. I quickly learned when I first moved here that the way to describe SB restaurants is by what they used to be, as in, "Have you eaten at (insert name of current SB restaurant)?" "No, where is it?" "Well, it used to be (insert name of now-defunct SB restaurant)."

I would recommend that the husband go to WEV: Women's Economic Ventures, and take some classes on how to make money from his business. If he can't afford to pay someone to help, there's no reason why his wife should give up her paying job to help him. WEV is a great local SB resource and he could learn a lot from it. www.wevonline.org.
