that rude little kid is going to be the first fatality when mom finally loses control of her car due to distraction.

610, you are so right! For poison oak, wash immediately in cold water with Fels Napthia soap, usually in laundry soap section of market.

Flipping the bird gets the point across.

yes - should have stood her ground then sued her. Also, what's up with calling people small or fat or anything outside of the center of the normal curve of body size?

I just know I would have leaped onto the hood, grabbed the windshield wipers and read a passage from "the Art of War." Glad you're okay. Don't be so apologetic about being in the right place with the wrong people.

Should have got her license plate number and reported her to the police, then sued her. That will teach her and little Johnnie a lesson.

Is the infamous Escalade causes problems all over town? Maybe the police should go to the school and wait for her.

Are there any non-psychotic Escalade drivers in this town?

I would have run down to the school, found her car, and kicked off her mirror.

673P, I can certainly see why you would hide your handle. What about going to the school and if you see the car wait for the woman and talk it out. That would be the adult thing to do.
Just maybe she wasn't happy with the child's response, and she reprimanded him after the fact.

My daughter was cut off by a large black SUV,forcing her to drive over the curb and onto the grass at the University. She jumped out of her car and found herself facing a large irate woman who began to blame my daughter for her mistake. Ending her tirade she turned back to her car with my daughter following, and she soon found herself facing the full verbal force direct from the guns of my small Japanese Great - Grand daughter of a Samurai!

It's against the law to talk on cell phones while driving, unless you're wearing a headpiece microphone. I was driving behind a gal today who was driving, and talking on cell phone holding it in one hand, while she tried to steer with her other hand, and it was so obvious she couldn't control the car - she was making all kinds of wierd adjustments and just not paying attention to the flow of traffic

I'd go to the school principal and explain what happened and ask him or her to intervene for the sake of the safety of all. I'd make a written complaint with the principal about the behavior of the parent taking her child to school and ask for a formal response from the school.

Let the principal handle things for the sake of preserving good will between students' families and those who live near the school.

It would be interesting to hear the driver's version of events. Who knows, it may have been the runner's fault. It's not like the runner seems eager to track her down or talk with the school. I sure would if it happened as described. Runners often ignore red ights and create their own unsafe environment by not wearing reflective clothes or simply cranking up the music and being unaware of their surroundings. While it might have been the driver's fault it could have just as easily been the runner's fault.

Good idea, 734. I have often wondered if we can make citizen's arrests in cases like these. I have seen any number of SUVs with drivers on the phone and children in tow. One even was making a U-turn in an intersection, on the phone and a child in the passenger seat.

My husband and I were walking our two dogs near Marymount and were almost run off the road several months ago. The driver was a man who also turned into Marymount to drop off a child. We called the principal of the school, who seemed quite concerned. I think it is definitely worth a call. Children walk to Marymount and it is a common stretch for pedestrians of all ages. There are no sidewalks. If parents are driving near the school in a dangerous way, it is imperative that the principal be notified and steps taken to make this aggressive road behavior stop.

A SB County worker help clear Poison Oak along a roadway in Goleta told me they use Tecnu lotion after their exposure to the Poison Oak. The workers also have on long sleeves, long pants and something on their head. I once was able to climb down into creeks or reach into areas next to the bike path in the area I live and had gotten a rash on my left arm that was followed by a secondary infection. Subsequent to that episode, I have used the Tecnu (within ?8? hours of exposure) ,after leaving the most outer clothes & shoes outside the back door (for wash and dry in a load without other clothes), immediately at a sink near the door on any skin potentially exposed to the plant oils and followed with the poison oak soap (bars at Island S & F and usually at La Cumbre F &S..??.Paradise Soap Co.???). No recurrence of the poison oak rash. I am careful not to touch my face when out near the plants. The Fels Naptha also is a very good suggestion. The Tecnu is a creamy white lotion available at drug stores, a little goes a long way (except if in running shorts...) and is in a 4 oz. white bottle for about $6.00. Contacting the school the car was going to and reporting it to the principal is an excellent idea..The school would not want to be considered a liability in the residential neighborhood.
