Interesting article. I love Arigato and I must say we've "ordered" this way before and the price wasn't THAT unmentionable. I guess it's all about your own comfort zone, but I think it's a bit misleading and makes it sound completely out of order price wise by not mentioning the price as if it were outrageous. The last time we did this (three people) it was about $170 with drinks included. Around $50 shouldn't be unmentionable in a town like SB.

As I overheard someone at the Santa Barbara harbor seafood festival say today by the tanks of live lobsters and shrimp, "fishing is brutal!" Eating raw animals partakes of that, imho, tasty though it may be.

111725P, how is eating a (dead) animal raw any different from eating it cooked? I guess I don't understand how it's "brutal", though I can maybe see where cooking it over a fire would be. That said, I would like to thank Lemonjelly for another lovely article. I miss the sushi bar in my previous town of residence where I was able to order omakase... such great nights we had! Alas, I just don't go out enough here.

I think the Uni, the urchins, are still alive when they are dug out of their shells with a spoon. Oysters, also. But agreed, eating a dead animal whether raw or cooked, is not that brutal: it is what most mammals do (so in that sense, it IS brutal.) What the person at the Harbor fest meant, I think, was that how they are caught is "brutal" — and if you've ever been on a commercial fishing boat, you'd see her point. Not much reverence there for another living creature.

My wife and I love Arigato!! We have been eating there since they were at their first location in Victoria Court. Baked mussels...yum. Last night we dined at Arch Rock Fish....FABULOUS! I recommend the locals try it. I hope the tourists can find it. Hostesses were very competent and not airheads. Our wait staff was very professional. Believe it or not there are three waiters named Sean there. The food was excellent. Two of the three owners came over to us during out meal. A very positive experience. AndyG

Loooove Arigato! One of my favorites is the Locals only.... Love the flaming presentation too. I'm happy to hear they're busy on Mo... they deserve to be.
