Is this the fine place who wouldn't give my friend chemo intil she paid for it in advance since she didn't have insurance ? Ditto for appointments. At least they gave her a discount for cash...

@Shipsstew: Healthcare is not a right. No one is entitled to the goods and services of others without paying. Medicine is no different. Your friend chose to be without healthcare insurance and then had a catastrophic condition. Too bad, so sad. This is why many of us do scrimp and save to be covered for this sort of a contingency. Too bad your friend couldn't get chemo before she paid for it. Too bad she can't have clothing from Nordstroms without paying for it or furniture from Nuvie without paying for it. Sheesh.

Thats it ! Just like Nordstrom's- only Nordstrom's doesn't want donations " to help the under-insured". Check the website.

104477: Excellent points. Thank you for providing this perspective. There are very few things we expect to get for free, yet there is this expectation we can walk in and demand free health care or else complain people are bad for not giving it. Not sure how this came about but I think it is part of a romanticized Saturday Evening Post image of the kindly family doctor who took chickens in payment for healing a sick child. To not carry health insurance is a choice. Choices have consequences and one of them is to not get health care for free. To ask to not pay for health insurance AND demand to get free health care at the same time beats going to the Chumash Casino and putting it on the daily double.
