I also have a feral cat hanging around. I befriended it in order to catch it and move it elsewhere. I drove it more than a mile away in a nice neighborhood. Three days later it was at my back door looking for food. Sounds like the cat, who I've nicknamed Shadow, is trying to tell me something. This is the third cat this year that chose my house as their new home - I already have 2 cats and a cat door, so I think the word gets around where to find TLC. Do cats know how to send emails?
