I disagree with 99383. I enjoyed reading this. I did not know anything about this place and will check out the taco deal. The "booze" descriptions were a nice touch, as well.

If you are looking for cheap tacos, but no cutesy booze, just go down the road a piece to dollar a taco Lily's at the beach end of downtown Chapala. But any taco not made with fresh tortillas is not worth any amount of money.

All restaurant reviewers have an agenda! It's to tell us about their experiences, so we can decide whether or not we'd like to have some of the same. Ms. Lemonjelly seems like a very nice person with an inclination to like everything she enounters ... and what's so wrong with that? No one is forcing anyone to read her reviews, so if you think she's inaccurate for any reason, don't click on her link. What makes this column different (and in my opinion, a really good way to decide if I'd like to try a restaurant) are her pictures. Worth a thousand words. In this case, I saw corn tortillas wrapped around meat and said to myself, "Hey, I can get that over on Milpas for way less than $2!" Of course, I won't get the whole Canary vibe, but I can live with that. Decision made, thanks to Ms. L!

Well said Edfan. I too love the pictures. And like Ms. L would try anything once. My husband and I love the carnitas americano tacos at Baja Fresh. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUM So I guess to each their own......

My intention/agenda is to spotlight places, preferably local, where there is something on offer - could be a special - that's a good price and good quality. And perhaps not well-known. It is possible to keep to a modest budget and still feel indulgent with dining out. I'm constantly on the seek for them, which I was already posting on my own food blog, yelp, and santabarbara.com. Every reader of Edhat is capable of contributing to this website - it could be photos of sunsets, flowers, I happen to have a large cache of food photos and am constantly acquiring more. I eat at more places than shown here, and some are not so good. I'm not going to use my one post a week on that. You can go to yelp.com if you're very curious to see where they rank! Glad the photos are making a difference, it's been a fun hobby.

I'm more interested in what kind of iron clad stomach Ms. Lemon must have. If I ate out even a few times a week like this, I'd need to mainline Prilosec. Seriously, I'm jealous! But I do appreciate all her reviews and I'm a vegetarian. You don't see me prattling on about the meat being offensive. Alcohol is just part of a lot of people's meals. Deal with it and enjoy the rest of the review for what it is; informative and FUN!

the tacos look dry--were the meats juicy or did you have toadd the the salsa for moisture? I prefer the types of taco stand ground chile salsa rather than a chopped tomato-and-onion type which add nothing to the flavor profile of the meats IMO. And gotta have cilantro, lol.

Thanks Ms. Lemonjelly! It's always great to know where the nice values are in town. The Canary started out with a VERY expensive menu just for appetizers. It's nice to know that they have inexpensive alternatives. With all these "Staycations" going on, it's nice to know of a classy place with reasonable prices. Would love to find out more:)

Thank you for explaining your dining column approach. Ms Lemonjelly. You are a food experience describer as suspected. Carry on. Now we know.

Don't be fooled by all my money. I still like to eat tacos, honey. So crispy on the outside, so super good and yummy.
