The silence from the environmental community regarding the poisoning of our streams, and foothills and forests, by Mexican Drug Cartels growing pot, is...well...confusing. Why the silence, folks?

'cause pot money speaks way louder than the rag-tag environmental money. You see, there is just a heck of a lot more of it. Enough to buy a politician who would know which side to speak up for and which side to shut up on. Pot money is walking and talking right now in this town. And it is the new Santa Barbara "green".

98428, any evidence to back up this allegation of corruption?

Is this a self declared "best summer monthly pro-environment party in Santa Barbara"? Too bad EDC still thinks their offshore oil deal with PXP was and still is a good idea.

Because, 98423P, a requirement for entry into the EDC is ownership of at least 3 bongs.

@98428 This is obviously the same person that makes these comments on every discussion where it's even remotely possible to bring in the subject of Marijuana...obviously upset because every time there is a valid discussion about MMJ, they are unable to provide one tiny little piece of proof that their ranting has validity....lol On topic - Looks like it was a GREAT party!

Hooray for the EDC! Who can believe that a legal group can do anything about the Mexican Mafia polluting anyhow? They are not the police or the feds!

EDC is all about the environment...except this one issue. Why aren't any of the environmentalists speaking up, at least as individuals...if not as part of any group. This is NOT going unnoticed, folks. The Feds are about law enforcement. Environmentalists are about what is harming the environment: air, water, soil. EDC is MIA.

So tell me how all of these tree huggers got to the party... walk? Ride their bikes? Don't tell me they drove, in a Prius no doubt.

98454P, The fertilizers and "damage" done by these grows is nothing compared to the fertilizers that gardeners like I use. We work in town, right next to storm drains. Yes, it would be nice if we all used organic fertilizer, but we don't. EDC and Heal the Ocean are concerned with the true threat, and the threat is probably me.

DAN39: EDC is silent on a real threat to our forests. MANY environmentalist speak out about not using pesticides and fertilizers in gardens. They are not silent on that topic, at all. There's no comparison.

You're an environmentalist if you actively contemplate the effect your actions have on the environment and attempt to mitigate those impacts, however small an effort you undertake. You don't have to fertilize your garden with your own sewage to be an environmentalist.

Did any of those enviros ask Ed Easton, next to last picture, about his vote with fellow councilmembers Bennett/Onnen -- and against environmentally sensitive Connell and Aceves? The subject: Bishop Ranch - and Easton's vote to have a study leading to development.

If EDC won't give up on the one time oil spill that happened over 40 years ago, why are they staying so silent about the environmental rape of our hillsides going on right now? They need to change their name to "We Live in the Past and Keep a Blind Eye To the Present Center" They have outlived their usefulness.

link This is in the Chicago Tribune, TODAY, in Wisconsin, Mexican Drug Cartel pot operations: "The Forest Service says marijuana farmers often clear-cut large areas, divert water from rivers, streams or lakes for irrigation and use pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers that can contaminate water systems." If it said "Europeans" instead of Mexicans, would that be an outrage to environmentalists...at last?
