Private housing groups like this should be the only providers of this type of housing in our city, but 100% without any more city subsidies. The City of Santa Barbara needs to get out of the housing business and let private industry fill the gap. There are too many other city needs that have gone neglected for too many years. We watch our own city services deteriorate every year and crime and blight invading all our neighborhoods now while the city has bent over backwards making sure anyone who wants to live here and adds to this growing mess gets a free city welcome and handout to come. We are horrified as we now are prisoners in our own homes with our streets being taken over routinely now by gangs, muggings, purse snatchings, vagrants, drunks and druggies, shoot outs, unsafe sidewalks, and reckless drivers.

Wow, 102759, thank you. Well said, especially paragraph three. I feel exactly the same way. The former City Council liked the feel good stuff, like giving away housing. The new members of City Council are grown ups, and will, hopefully, have the guts to tackle the real problems that all of us are facing...refer, once again, to paragraph three.

Recently, I visited the office of PSH, having read about it on Edhat. I told the receptionist that my situation was dire, and that I had a letter from my physician with me, and could I please speak with a social worker. (There were several staff members in the back of the office, some just chatting.) This receptionist was so rude to me, not even letting me explain my situation. She did not even offer me paperwork; I had to ask if there were any brochures or applications, etc. that I could complete while I was there. End story is that I could not get past this girl. She showed no compassion whatsoever, and offered no help. She did not smile once. I was very nice to her. She did eventually, begrudgingly it seemed, give me paperwork, but would not accept my doctor's letter. I left very discouraged and even more depressed than when I walked in. Still have not recovered enough from that horrible experience to go back or seek help elsewhere. That's what happens when one's self esteem is shot down by others.

Unfortunately, the majority of voters are these people mentioned in the first post - which is why the city council will continue to do whatever it takes to keep their jobs and their cushy retirement - I heard about retiring, a long time ago and have since given up on that dream.
