She's beautiful. If I didn't already have 5 cats...

what a sweetie...look at those alert eyes. Alas, I'm at my pet 'maximum' right now... Owners: does she have any special endearing 'tricks' or habits? Can you tell us more about her?

@Seedlady She loves to "play" with our dog. The dog will run circles around the cat but she doesn't budge. She's always in charge. If you're lying on the couch watching TV, she'll slowly make her way up until she's lying face to face with you on your chest. She also loves playing with glasses of water.

We traveled throughout Europe in the late 70s for a year with a cat and had no problems whatsoever. Why don't you consider taking Calle with you? Discuss the options with your vet. Our vet has clients who travel regularly, living part time in the Middle East. The cat goes with them to Egypt. Sicily would be a lot easier than Egypt. If no one steps forward to adopt her you probably don't want her to end up in a cage, after having led an idyllic life in your home.

Hi readers..I am the owner of Cally.......she is truly the most adorable cat..we got her from the pound and she has been very loving and sweet since day one. We also have a Boston T and a Canary and she gets along with them both....she totally bosses Lola the Boston around. Apart from the journey..the heat and the cold weather I just don't want to put her thru this.....she is pretty spoiled here and I do feel I can find her another family that will love her as mush as we do. Please spread the word.....most important she is an indoor cat....outdoor cats have shorter lives.

Hmmm...I was just looking through Shin Otani's The Cats of Venice. Seemed like a sign to do a quick Google search for "moving to Italy with cats". Guess what? It's not too hard. Lots of people do it so there's plenty of advice available for doing it yourself. Too overwhelming? Then use a pet transportation service which specializes in safely moving your pet. Pet Express out of San Francisco was recommended by one expat who moved two cats to Germany. You really sound like you are Cally’s forever home.... I’m sure she feels the same way. Unless you have family that is willing to take her you will never know if things turn out right for her. No doubt the volunteers at the “pound” thought you were the best long term home for Cally too. After your move, it will just be a matter of time before you realize how much you miss living with a cat. It won’t be hard to find one... but it won’t be Cally. Hope you reconsider and take Cally with you. I'm sure she'll love Italy.

#90577 said it beautifully... I hope it works out well for all of you. I would not want to break that beautiful kitty's heart. You can see all the way into her soul through those beautiful eyes.

This will sound a bit harsh, but how could your dream only include two of your three animal kids? When we adopt/rescue an animal, it is a committment. If you had a human child, leaving them behind would not be an option. In my experience, our dog would rather be with us, heat, cold, whatever, than to be left behind. Your three animals are family, they should be together. Please reconsider, Cally won't understand being abandoned and you cannot guarantee her welfare in a new home. Her personality could totally change.

I agree, Cally is part of your family..don't walk away. I'm moving about 1000 miles in a month and my dog and 5 cats are going. I wouldn't think of leaving them behind.

#90847 - I'm curious as to how you are going to move the cats. I may have to move my cat about 600 miles north and I am very apprehensive about it.

I am renting an airconditioned van from uhaul. (1 way) the kitties in the back with carpet and blankets and a secured liter box. I will take carriers in any have a problem. The dog has a car seat for dogs...she will be in the front with me. Late dinner for all..no breakfast, just water. Light lunch. I will stay at my sons light dinner and continue on the next day. That is how they all got here. It worked very well.

I also think you should take her with you, ESPECIALLY if you ARE taking your dog and bird; there is really no excuse. If, however, you decide you won't, I would be very interested in adopting Calle (please, what is the correct spelling and pronunciation of her name?). I already have six cats, all indoor; but have had as many as 14 indoors without any real problem.
