Now I want a loaf of bread.

There are rules and laws to make it easier for all of us to live together and to know what to expect of one another.

If you are able bodied there is no excuse for having parked in the red zone. Park lawfully and be considerate of others by adherring to these little social niceties.

You asked for an opinion. You were out of line in doing what you did. Is it also the rationalization you'd use for parking in a handicap spot to just "run in" somewhere?

For all the time you wasted, it would have been cheaper and faster to bake your own bread. And, there would have been one less car to fight for parking.

Dude saw you were so fat you needed to park in a red zone and made the smaller ones for your diet. Thank him next time.

If the lady was attractive would it have been ok for her to have the sandwiches rung up separately?

COMMENT 88471 helpful negative off topic

The issue is the refusal of the writer to understand why there are red zones. Many are there to allow angles of sight for oncoming drivers when making turns.

Red zones are not there to merely inconvenience this poster who wants what she wants, when she wants it. Her selfish act could have put other drivers in danger

This "rules are for someone else" attitude is quite stunning as to its prevalence today. Is this the pay off for decades of self-esteem classes at the cost of civics classes teaching good citizenship?

Not only are the rules for someone else, there is also a license to flip you off if anyone dares complain.

Tell me if these questions are real or just made up to be irritating?

Okay, I was that lady that was in front of the ciabatta complainer. I can't believe it's an issue to divide the order. I do it all the time at the supermarket. Okay, I'm not really her but go to the supermarket bakery if you want a bigger roll. Just be grateful that we still have a bakery downtown.

These questions are very amusing, made up or not.

I went in there this morning. Long line. Rude servive from the guy with some wise crack about buying two rolls. Too much BS. I love the bread and noticed the prices went up recently. Bad economy I guess.

If you had circled the block and found a parking space in a 15 minute slot, then hurried to and from Our Daily Bread to complete your errand, you would have burned enough calories to merit a small cookie to go along with your loaves.

Ditto the "I love Edda" comment. Notice how she's getting more hits than anyone else on Edhat?

Definitely is "loaves" --- and parking like that shows as little respect for others as does the misspelling.

COMMENT 88559 helpful negative off topic

I agree with 88495. There are many 15 minute zones nearby. Insisting on parking right in front of the store is downright lazy and there is no excuse for it.

I fail to see what the appearance of the woman in front of you has to do with the story of you illegally parking to get your bread?

COMMENT 88569P helpful negative off topic

2010-07-11 09:18 AM

I may be wrong (quite possibly) but I think "Edda" is poking at the rude & nasty minded with her columns. If any of this item is true I would imagine that Edda "herself" was in the line BEHIND the illegally parked customer.

You can't be serious... Hungry Guy, you deserve a raspberry.

COMMENT 88582 helpful negative off topic

Hungry Guy - Are you serious? I would be embarrassed to post something like this. Your story leaves me with the impression that you have a shallow and self-centered view of the world, not to mention a pretentious attitude towards other people and tendency towards moronic behavior. I don't understand why you would want to share this with the rest of the world. The next time you have a "last minute" experience involving cock-eyed parking in red zones, insulting unattractive people and complaining about the size of your loafs, you might want to keep the tale to yourself.

COMMENT 88591 helpful negative off topic

2010-07-11 10:22 AM

Well, I think you've got the message - your behavior was self centered and illegal - I was hoping there was a ticket on your windshield when you returned to your car.

But, the comment by poster wondering about your issue with the split order - it is frustrating when you are in a hurry at the grocery store, or elsewhere when someone makes it slower with their complications of split order, they don't even begin to look for their checkbook until the order has been rung up, and then they don't have a pen...sheesh! That's when I take a deep breath and remind myself that life is too short to spoil it with my own irritation of others.

Why is everyone always in such a hurry? "Haste makes waste", it also gets stressful and stress causes health problems. Parking, walking a block and relaxing in line would do wonders for you, mentally and physically. JP

Hurt feelings?!!!??

Tell that to the *rather unattractive* woman in front of you.

Honestly, this is the most "all about me" letter so far. This is just getting ridiculous.

Hungry Guy, as long as you were in line at Our Daily Bread, why for heaven's sake didn't you get one of their pecan cinnamon rolls? They're so scrumptious, none of the rest of the annoyances would have mattered.

The bread is much better at D'Angelo

COMMENT 88471 helpful negative off topic

Never impressed with D'Angelo's, and their ciabattas don't even come close to Our Daily Bread. Seems D'Angelo's appears to do mass production for restaurants and only as an after thought offers a little retail for very limited hours compared, to the full service at Our Daily Bread.

You have been had! Too much white bread makes you fat and lazy. Judging by your lack of judgment, my comment describes you all too well. Lay off the bread, for a while walk a block.

Europe lives off "white" bread and god love them, they remain fit and healthy. White bread gets an undeserved bad rap from the food faddists.

88847 - In Paris, where I have seen baguettes carried in all sorts of novel ways, the shops are close enough that people either walk or cycle to buy their bread, cheese, fruit, wine etc. As is the feature of the story, the mode of transport was the car where only ones hands and feet are used.

I am sure the baguettes are made from unbleached white flour. Also, I am sure the Europeans dilute the bad effects of the white flour with healthy "mediterranean" food including such items as olive oil.

Edda is beautiful. This column humorously illustrates an all too common attitude today. Which is, I hold everyone to the highest standard of behavior, except myself.

I think the French are best known for their liberal use of butter. As Julia Childs said, "if you don't like to use butter, use cream instead". And she lived into her 90's. Bon appetit. She also wondered why Americans were so afraid of their food. Good question.

Since Our Daily Bread was sold to people who employ clerks who don't speak the bare minimum of English that is required to be able to take your order .... I have since been shopping at & highly suggest the multi-grain bread @ D'Angelo's Bakery- YUM!
