There is a large picture of this hanging in the back of Harry's Cafe by the Ranchero Room. You can see more of the bottom of the picture, like both State St and Samarkand intersecting with De la Vina. Great picture

That's back when the CC&R's proclaimed that only certain races could own in San Roque Gardens.

This is totally cool, to see the early days, and connect that with John's photo from this week. Thanks Neal for sharing the photo, it is amazing to see how the whole area looked in that era - so much open space.

On the lower right corner of the photograph of San Rogue, nee Rutherford Park, one can make out the De La Vina wye, before State Street was extended from Constance. If one searches back in the Edhat files, the Edhat reader can find the history of the Wye and of San Roque that KDEF submited. It is titled "History of the De La Vina Wye".

Gee, when I get to SB next I'll have to go to Harry's with my camera. I can imagine I see the house on Calle Pinon that we lived in from the early 1950s to mid to late 1950s. THANK YOU!

Gee that makes me OLD. I knew John Gorin and didn't realize that he was a flyer or a photographer and I knew Tommy Tompkins very well and delivered papers to his house for a while. Circa 1955....For those into amateur radio John was K6ODE (KN6ODE for my very first contact when I was on the air as a novice) and Tommy was K6ATX. Both very active in what was then the chit chat group on 2 meter AM meeting nightly and on 10 meters also for a weekly CD group check in. When I last talked with John was around 1980 when I was leaving SB after a visit with my parents driving up 154 and John and I talked on 2 meters. He seemed to be suffering from some dementia and was in a care place of some sort. I think in the Santa Ynez area which I think was where his son lived.
