Its seems rude and inconsiderate to stop on the APS. You certainly could have been the cause of an accident. Have you heard of GPS?

Getting lost can be really frustrating. I like pulling off onto a side street and getting out a city map. Once I'm in the right neighborhood, I try to find someone out walking or in their yard and ask directions.

I don't understand what "Ask Edda" is supposed to be? Funny (not)? Informative (not)? Filler (maybe)?

Rude people always knock me sideways. I simply don't know how to react to them and practically have a stroke trying to. My advice, keep to sane roads and avoid APS like the plague.

I have decided Edda 's column is what the individual perceives it to be and reacts accordingly to the quotes of the day. If it is supposed to be amusing, clearly I have been missing something. However, some of the comments can be worth a chuckle or two.

It's so easy to get lost on APS. The only clues to where you are at are the street signs, the only road with any width (except where it's one way and you can't get off it easily anyway), and the periodic view of the city as a landmark. They should have citizens lining the streets pointing the way.

APS is my favorite drive in town! Probably a good rule o' thumb to not stop in the middle of any single lane road, no? How 'bout waiting for a reasonable place to pull aside and then ask for help? Stopping in the middle of any windy street IS dangerous for you and others.

this points out my pet peeve with drivers who think they're the only ones on the road who matter: I"M lost--so all stops in order to help ME. I can't be bothered to call ahead and get directions, or to double-check with a map. I missed my turn off, therefore, I'll stop in my lane till I can move over to get where I want to go. Let the others WAIT for me. Go aorund the block? I'd rather die first. I drive a V-8, therefore I can dawdle my way down the on-ramp at 40, then really stand on it and be doing 75 within 30 ft, merging with traffic with ease. Too bad about the line of smaller cars behind me with a 30 ton 18 wheeler bearing down on them in the outside lane. What the hell is that car ahead of me stopped for? A pedestrian crossing? hmph! I'll 'honk' my anger as I pass the car, narrowly missing (well, I didn't HIT him) the pedestrian pushing the baby stroller.

COMMENT 77155P: Does the world revolve around you? Stopping (to take a picture) in the flow of traffic is one of the most dangerous things a driver can do...Please be considerate of people driving behind you who are assuming that streets are for driving...what a novel idea! Please pull to the side and be courteous to the other drivers.

The other day my cell phone rang while I was driving. To be safe, I stopped driving to answer it. All the drivers behind me started honking. How rude. BTW - I think Ask Edda is funny (at least most of the time) but the comments are event better.

One time I was on my way to Montecito, but I was distracted by my dog in the car and passed the East Valley offramp, so I backed up - but just a little bit - so I wouldn't have to drive all the way to Summerland. No one honked, but that Highway Patrol officer...

Alameda Padre Sertra is not a little scary road. It is really a thorofare for cars going from San Roque and Mission Canyon to Montecito and back. Those of us who use it all the time do get impatient with the bewildered and curve-challenged who wander onto it by accident.

As a resident of Mission Canyon for 45 years I would like to point out, APS is not actually the preferred road for commuters hell bent to get to and from Montecito at any price. It is a scenic and public road for everyone, including residents in this town who are confused and not apparently familiar with this rule. Please slow down, hold the anger, and show a little compassion. If one treated out of town visitors like this, they would return home with a seriously flawed impression. Or please take the freeway if you are in that big of a hurry.

I guess it may be the fastest route if you don't bother to stop or slow down for anyone or anything that may be thoughtless and inconvenient to get in the way!
