Cardamom is needed for this recipe to be truly Danish. My Danish mother-in-law makes the best with a similar recipe with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of cardamom added to the dry ingredients.

Mmm, I've been wanting to invest in a pan and make these at home...now that I know there's buttermilk in the recipe, it's gonna happen. Thanks, Leah!

Where is the apple slice? Doesn't aebleskivers translate to and should be cooked with apple slice inside?

Definitely no on the apple slice. It's not an apple-skiver, although often called that mistakenly.

Cardamon is certainly an option and a matter of taste. I prefer my cardamon in dinner rolls and peppernodder, but that's just me.

Thanks for the comments.

They were traditionally cooked with bits of apple (æble) or applesauce - so it says. But modern day it is without apple. Just to clarify aeble means apple

I am aware of that, what I'm refering to is people who pronounce aeble as apple.
