Really enjoyed this, Mc Seas! I am from the little town of Parkerburg, about 20 miles from Waterloo. Not far from where you traveled. That is where the level 5 tornado struck on Memorial Day, two years ago. It was actually covered on both Larry King Live and 20-20. This little town of about 1500 lost over 300 homes. Farms were damged and it was an event when pigs really did fly. The damage stopped right by my old family Victorian house, Only the back porch got wiped away. But the house where my dad had lived later, was completed demolished. Thanks for a trip down memory lane. I still love corn fields!

You are gaining wisdom. What is the rush? Be here now. Enjoy the moment, for it may never be available again. That should be a theme on any vacation or travel ramble.

Hi Seedlady -- We used to travel in a VW camper/bus, but this time my Prairie Schooner was a little rental Dodge. It was perfect for a weeklong trip. Thanks for writing. mcc

Dear 65: I think Iowa is an under-rated state! It offered a very, very pleasant drive.
