Anyone who wants to heal the world should refrain from hypocrisy and begin in their own backyard. There are still people living outside, too poor to afford to live within four walls and a roof, where this woman began her 'non-profit'--Santa Barbara. Would healing Santa Barbara require the abatement of greed? You betcha! Heal that, and then export your method to Brazil and everywhere else. Yes, heal the world--starting from your own neighborhood.

Oh Brother...........92% of applicants to our State receive a 501c3 tax status. Santa Barbara was in need for just ONE more non profit. Way to do your homework guys. When your organization bombs in the next year or two....please turn off the lights.

"Worldhealer"- what a good ole fashioned colonialist name and mission statement-

....by giving underprivileged individuals the tools to improve themselves and in turn want a better life for themselves and for their families.

When one learns the ability to dream achievable goals, he/she gains control over his/her own life. Pride and self-worth lead to the desire to have a better quality of life and the acknowledgement of its value. This motivation naturally gets passed on to others and together the community will have a better chance of accomplishing changes....

LOL 64068! I saw that too... So the underprivileged don't ALREADY want a better life for themselves? They need Worldhealer to give them an attitude adjustment that will enable them to "learn the ability to dream achievable goals and the desire for a better life"?
?? I am getting de ja vue...

Start in your own backyard: We desperately need homeless shelters, women's safe houses, community health clinics and mental health resources RIGHT HERE IN SANTA BARBARA.

I know, I know, then you can't write off a trip to Brazil...

What's wrong with you Edhatters? Why attack and denigrate an organization that's trying to raise awareness of global responsibility? Yes, there are needs right in our own town... and there are people uniquely qualified to address those local issues. Are you one of them? Ask yourself how you can help in your own back yard.

Likewise, there are people who are uniquely qualified to address issues on a global scale... people who have seen some of the appalling conditions in other areas, and who have the language skills and background to effectuate change internationally.

I say: Help out in some way, either locally or internationally, but stop throwing negativity at people who are trying to make a difference.

I would like to know something: comment #'s 64036, 64056, 64068, 64069, 64071... i'm curious to know what organization, group, volunteer opportunity or safehouses you have created from the ground up... please, do us all a solid and post a comment with the link to the local good you're doing here in SB... we'd all like to applaude your positivity in practice, instead of theory. You have every right to voice your opinion here, negative or positive...free speech guarantees that...
However, your verbal diahrrea and criticism leaves a lot to be desired and not only accomplishes nothing, but also breaks the spirit of those who aspire to do any good, local or global...for fear that ignorant and miserable people like yourselves will "hate" and verbally attack them and spread nonesense about their efforts. I hope that this organization realizes that this type of criticism comes with the territory of grand success. Do you think Bill Gates didn't encounter people like yourselves along the way?

Wait, could'nt the entire world be thought of as one's backyard?
