Nice pics of the pelican and the USS Ronald Reagan in the background.

The USS Ronald Reagan remains severely contaminated by radioactive fallout from the Fukushima disaster. After the meltdowns, sailors on board reported a "warmth" and a "metallic" taste - and at least 79, previously in top health - have come down with various cancers characteristic of exposure to the type of radioactive contamination released by Fukushima.

After being contaminated, the USS Reagan was denied permission to dock anywhere in Japan, Guam and S. Korea. The 79 sailors have now filed a $1 billion open class action lawsuit against Tepco, owners of the Fukushima complex.

In the few minutes it took look at the photos and write this, the US taxpayers coughed up approximately $10,500 to run this ship.

Well said 054. Keep the info coming too many people still get their news from the corporate sponsored BS on FOX,MSNBC, HBO,CBS,PBS etc...

And you can read all about it on reputable websites for top quality information that THEY don't want you to know about, like InfoWars and Natural News!

What a farce.

The crazies are off their regimens again.

054 - Sources?

And how does this change how good these photos are, and how cool it was to experience this ship?

PS If you don't like what our taxes are being spent on, be proactive and do something about it. Thanks.

054 - So?

So what if it was contaminated? It's been cleaned up. What, the US Navy was supposed to know somehow? It's called a disaster. And you'd be surprised at the amount of radiation you are exposed to on a daily basis.

081, I do wonder "who are the crazies"?

The fact that the USS Ronald Reagan was heavily contaminated when performing a humanitarian mission on behalf of those stricken by the Japan earthquake and tsunami catastrophe was reported all over the world, except in our "Axis of Propaganda" corporate media, which failed miserably, yet again, in their duty to inform the American public.

It appears, sadly, that our mainstream media conglomerates are more concerned with protecting the reputation and profits of a foreign-owned power utility, over the interests and wellbeing of our men and women in uniform.

Thank you to all community comments! I was especially keen on noticing the Brown Pelicans feeding earlier then usual. A report as recent as 2 days ago states that their feeding habitats are declining due to El NiƱo and ocean temperature changes. A real threat exists that there is shifting habitats and a smaller food supply where they normally feed and nest. It appears they are migrating earlier this year in search of the decline in population of their normal diet of sardines and other small fish.

Aren't they going back to Japan?

Yes, RD. The carrier will be permanently (whatever that is) stationed in Japan. This was the last visit of the RR to Santa Barbara.

Why is this post saying that was the Nimitz?
Its the USS Reagan, is it not?

Love the pelican shots! Sorry to hear that their habitat is changing and their food supply is shifting.

054 posts that same rant every time I read anything about our naval ships. I especially like the 1st year poli-sci statements to the effect of "you have no idea what I haven't told you...you are all sheep and corporate tools..."

not worth re-butting

283 - I think the poster was trying to say that the Reagan is a (modified) Nimitz-class carrier, but just doesn't know Navy terminology.

081p - thanks for clarifying and correcting the OP. The USS-RR is one in a class of ten nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in service with the US Navy. (search "Nimitz-class aircraft carrier")
