Humorous. Yes, as those slopes can get slippery, how about labeling this an Op-Ed piece.

OpEd 211? You're kidding right? You want to be able to distinguish this from actual "news"? You need a label? Just the suggestion makes me think it wouldn't help.

In my years as a baseball player, other members of the team commonly refered to me as a "bench warmer". Never knew how to put this skill to use, due to baseball season being in the warmer part of the year. Perhaps now I have found my calling.

The IPCC did not report a hiatus ... the temperature has continued to rise, with the last decade being the hottest in history. There are no contortions needed to explain how global warming -- which the IPCC and all scientific evidence and principles overwhelmingly supports -- causes cold arctic air to be displaced southward, just basic physics. That is what is being denied -- the scientific evidence, the fact that global warming is human-caused by releasing sequestered CO2, which the IPCC confirmed at a 95% certainty level. That the climate has always changed is true but not relevant -- this change is different from changes in the past, and changes that occurred before the rise of human civilization are not points of comparison. What is relevant is that the motivation for denial is political and economic ideology, not a commitment to what is factually true.

Anyway back to the original program.... great photo. Driving down 101 a few mornings ago I was treated to similar sights all along the route. It was quite beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Great story and photo. I like it.

I've explained to numerous colder state friends that the reason SoCal complains so bitterly when it gets truly cold here is that most of our houses are very poorly insulated and not particularly well heated either. About 4-8 weeks/year, we wish we had double-pane windows and better insulation, either because it's too hot or too cold. Other than that, we live with the doors and windows open the rest of the year.

Well of course, anyone foolish enough to sit on an icy bench without chaining up first is just asking for trouble...

You did not tell us, Steve, what means you used to protect yourself and your camera from these dangerous conditions. Like the great Arctic and Antarctic explorers you risked your own comfort and safety to explore the mysteries of our planet. For this you have our admiration and gratitude.
