Power came on in Goleta at 11:30p.m. and went out around 7:00 p.m. Anyone know how smoke can overwhelm a power line?

Heard from others that power went out all the way from Carpinteria to Goleta at one point. SB was out from 7 pm to 7:40.

The way it was explained to me was that the dense smoke clouds have enough carbon to create a sort of "floating wire" between the power lines allowing electricity to travel thus causing a short. It reminded me of the story of the trolly driver who attempted to put out an electrical fire by peeing on it and was electrocuted because the "stream" carried the current back to him.
