unlawful use of a skateboard facility, and use of unauthorized equipment in a skateboard facility.

I had no idea such laws existed. Also, it's on Youtube. What an idiot.

BRAVO to the person who decide to pursue this with the police.

This punk needs to learn you do not trash others' property & intimidate people regardless the reason.

Perhaps a few hundred hours of supervised community service time, a stint in the local lockup, & a stinging fine will send this guy & others the message!

What a dumb way to mess up one's life at an early age. Why do kids do this? To make a big impression? It will, certainly impress his future bosses and his future--if he has one. Stupidity should not be a felony, but taking the further steps of acting stupid certainly does get people in trouble.

if you look up 12500(b) VC - it's listed as an infraction, not a misdemeanor. The SBPD calls it a crime in this press release. Wrong?

What kind of person snitches on a innocuous event like this and forces a felony for nothing more than a joy ride?

I really hate people who think they need to patrol the world. HATE them. They are simply the worst people to work with, live near or deal with... no one likes people like this.

If one person gets away with it, then there will be two, then there will be .... until it becomes a motorcycle area and not a skater area. It is rude, selfish, and inconsiderate.

COMMENT 436717 helpful negative off topic

745 - Until the joy rider runs over your foot, or your kid's foot, crushing it so badly that surgery is needed, which you have no insurance for, and the only reason you were able to get money to pay the doctor bills was because the samaritan took down the joy rider's license plate.

COMMENT 436765 helpful negative off topic

The joy ride wasn't the felony, it's what he did afterwards: 136.1(b)(1) PC – attempting to prevent or dissuade a witness from reporting a crime.

You can think what you want as I can this is the United States of America and a free country, SNOT The United States of Santa Barbara like some people seem to think and from the 3 videos I've seen so far it doesn't look like anything but maybe a minor traffic violation. Santa Barbara is famous for condemning and railroading besides being the American Riveria the proof is in your statement to me as I haven't smoked anything today. Everything is wrong in Santa Barbara...

Come on, Roger Dodger- if there were skateboarders there skating -he could have hit somebody who" Wiped out". or fell down and both could have been hurt.Thank goodnes nothing happened! Plain and simple if it's on the books as a "crime" and intimidating a witness/reporting party is a "crime" then if found "guilty" He needs to do the time....I hope it's his first and last brush with the law. I think I know one of his relatives- I live in Carp.

Oh the horror! You think this is a isolated incident? Young kids are doing all kinds of daredevil antics on motorcycles. ..and young girls will continue to text. You and your buddies will continue to drive while impaired. If you feel threatened or afraid it's only right to call law enforcement, but good judgement should be used. Come out for Fiesta and help the law by reporting every infraction that warrents time and resources to our budget. Ya know like the cops in this town have nothing better to do!

745... your pal hadn't really done anything terribly wrong, just been a dumb kid. Goes with the territory. But threatening someone so as not to have to face the music for his childish stunt? That there is big time criminal behaviour. His choice and his aggravated consequences for being, not just a kid but a juvenile delinquent.

The felony charge was for threatening and/or attempting to dissuade a witness. Without that a few hundred dollars in fines would probably have been the biggest problem from the other charges. Whether he is guilty or not the courts will decide, although my guess DA will offer a deal.

Roger you think that threatening a witness is no big deal, or perhaps I am just misreading? (if thats what happened)

This kid has no doubt had free reign his entire short-punk life... Mommy and Daddy bought him the truck and the bike, they are as (ir)responsible as this idiot... He needs discipline- the Judge should offer to wipe out the charges if he signs up for the Army or Marines (if they would accept him...)

Now the police need to enforce the law of no motorized vehicles on the Beach Way/Bike Path. I have seen several men ride their gasoline-powered skate boards, small scooters (whatever the heck they are), zipping along at about 20-25mph on the Bike Path----repeatedly.

These same guys (two of them) haul ass up Shoreline, too---not obeying the 25mph speed limit. I have yet to see any police handing out citations to them.

The reason he was overcharged with a felony for joyriding his motorcycle is the cop involved. Jaycee Hunter is SBPD's infamous rogue cop who has a history of exceeding his authority and abusing his police power. What was the justification for getting a search warrant? What did Hunter expect to find that would be relevant to the charges? Or was he just abusing the search warrant process to go fishing for evidence of some other crime?

"Overcharged with a felony for joyriding his motorcycle"

883P: How many times does it have to be explained? It is NOT a felony to joyride a motorcycle. It IS a felony to dissuade a witness to a crime through intimidation and threats. What part of this don't you understand?

COMMENT 436861P helpful negative off topic

2013-07-30 12:44 AM

NATUREBOY, I appreciate your comments on this thread. I think a lot of people do not understand the severity of what this kid did. Attempting to dissuade a witness is a big deal.

And I believe he was "threatening" more than one person, when he rode his motorcycle in the skate park. I'm surprised he wasn't charged with child endangerment or assault with a deadly weapon.

Threatening anyone for any reason nowadays is not a thing that should be taken lightly----at all. Used to be someone would bad mouth you, make threats and it was all bluff. Now these kids run home and grab a knife or a gun and . . .

The parents may be good people, but they aren't doing their job. This "rebel without a cause" engaged in a potentially harmful demonstration. A demonstration which showcased his over-the-top testosterone levels. Then he verbally threatened someone.

He needs some sort of activity that keeps him challenged and too tired to resort to such bad behavior. A bit more parental supervision is in order, at the very least.

This would not be a big deal if it were in some empty lot on a weekend with few buddies, same thrills but no one to report. To do this in public in a high usage area, including parking, sidewalks, etc., is stupid and potentially dangerous. Thanks to the person who got the license! Doesn't really matter what Roger thinks on this one, majority are on target.
