Since low income people like me who barely make upper 5 figures a year would have to spend 1 year worth of salary for just one nights stay I don't go there. Never even seen the place. But I guess those who can afford that kind of opulence still exist or it be out of business. I wish the new owners best of luck.

I wonder if they will have another eco conference like they did a year or so back. I think Bill Clinton was there for the event along with Bill Gates and other eco-friendly types. Great place to stay and the views are incredible!! In my experience the food was just okay, but they have quite a wine selection.

Been once for business, it's really over the top.

They have falconers that take care of pigeons and seagulls. Best part was they let us check em out.

I'm still surprised its lasted this long, place is huge

Long live Haskells.

Ohana hotels owned it for how long? Wonder if the hotel has shown much profit in recent years? Have never been - what is there special that one can hardly find elsewhere, other than being on the ocean?

Before the land was bulldozed to make way for Bacara (wasn't it supposed to be a Hyatt?), we went to Haskell's to say good-bye to all the butterflies. Not just monarchs, but loads of other butterflies you don't usually see around SB.

Bacara will never see a dime of our dough.

Ohana means family. That's what they kept telling us when they bought it. But blood is not thicker than cash flow, so on to the next victim... And the fact that they have an " Eco conference" there is so ironic. The only thing green about that place is the mold growing inside the cheaply made walls. Good Luck to the next owners, may the Chumash spirits smile upon your venture.

I was shocked when Ohana bought it; they had a good track record up to that point. At least they quickly learned what a pitfall the place is, while calming the waters with the locals.

Bad timing, bad location, the place will always be a giant beached whale, Dworman's Moby Dick.

Ohana has made a huge difference in the time they owned Bacara- they really welcomed locals, and had all kinds of free events there that were open to the public, including free movies during the film festival in their gorgeous theater. It's a beautiful property, I only hope the new owners continue what Ohana started.

The falcons also guarantee no snowy plover problems.

This is great! I am looking forward to a new owner to bring some attention to this beautiful property. Its a wonderful place to have parties, dinner...bring guests to stay while in Santa Barbara!

Such disdain and jealously... why are people here so intent on broadcasting their own shortcomings under the guise of ecology?

Each and every one of you is a human who takes up space and uses resources... I guess that's the Santa Barbara way... complain, complain, complain and then stand on your soap box and declare your superiority to all others... while patting yourself on your Patagonia laden back...

I wish the new owners the best of luck. The Bacara is a gem. There will never be another hotel like it built on the Central Coast, ever. And while you old time locals may not like it, tough tiddlywinks. You could always make a billion and buy it and burn it down...

the bacara does well. occupancy rates are high....you would be surprised to see the folks who sneak into town unannounced on a regular basis....the bacara economically is good for this community.......however it will be interesting to see if the new owners reach out to locals like ohana did.

Quick question.
does anyone know if Dworman held on to the acreage [I seem to remember 1200 acres] up the canyon and across the freeway that he held with the hotel when he bought the property

Don't mistake disgust for jealousy 776. The Baccara is a huge steaming turd, covering what was once Haskells. Sorry if you can't understand that, I guess it's a local's thing, but go ahead and embrace the LA/OCification of our beautiful town....It's the Transplant way.

snowy plovers? you mean that bird we protect that isn't even on the endangered list?!!

829 - There is nothing worse in SB than a snickering 'local' who thinks they're special because their grandparents moved here years ago... Unless you're a 100% native american, your ancestors destroyed CA and you have overseen its further demise. One does not gain respect for being born here, its what you do while you live here that matters...

So I suggest you make a few hundred million and buy the turd yourself... now that would earn a lot of respect from locals and non-locals alike. Acting special because you're born here does not.

@829 @ 860 Thank You for speaking up and telling it like it straight. If this hotel was so successful then why is it on the 3rd owner?

829...i guess you could say the same for everything on the coast assembled by humans....as far as resorts go...the bacara is pretty good.

Consider this...you spend a fortune building a hotel on land that is not meant for a hotel, you deal with locals who hate you, you regularly have 1/2 or less occupancy because tourists don't want the SB experience in Goleta and you have ongoing structural issues with your buildings. You can't raze the thing so you take the next option-you sell it to whomever will buy it at a non-firesale price. It's an albatross but I don't hate on it. Good luck to the new owners...maybe you can figure it out.

829 I am so with you. 100%.

I didn't ask my parents to create me. But they did, and I grew up right across the freeway. With friends we'd cross the 101 and play all day long on the Haskell's property. What we brought in with us, we took out with us. We watched butterflies and birds and lizards and never hurt a single one. That that open space is now gone and in it's place the Bacara, truly turns my stomach each time I think of it.
