Hahahahaaahahahaaahahaha!! Oh my gosh please stop! I saw this earlier and I am still in hysterics!

We almost bought something like this for our 6 year old for Christmas! How could anyone take a cope on a toy scooter seriously?

Whats the matter with a bicycle ?

I can't wait to see them busting tricks on these while they chase down criminals!

Finally, a vehicle in line with the stature of our police forces. I only wish one would ride his little trike through my neighborhood...people literally getting robbed every evening now.

Seriously embarrassing. Is there any reason these super hero's can't ride a friggen bike? This town... sigh........

I think that they will have higher perception while maintaining balance and energy. Duh.

Personally I think these look waaaay more dorky than the Segways.

COMMENT 374512 helpful negative off topic

The article says the expenditure was $8K for two trikkes so unless I'm really lost on the "new math" that's $4K per trikke.

Looking as though one is having fun on a toy does not inspire respect or authority.

Oh well.

REX, or The Keystone Cops.... LOL.....

hahahahahaha!!!! what's next, a "Green Machine"?

COMMENT 374517 helpful negative off topic

2013-02-14 04:34 PM

499: Agreed. But 8 grand seems crazy. And they vetoed segways due to the dork factor, but these aren't exactly what I'd call cool (although I do want one, and think it's better than a segway). Christ, get a cheap moped, and put training wheels on it if balance is such a big deal... You could outfit the entire PD with the cost of a single trikke. (Course, the way SB spends, a moped would probably be 3 grand...)

COMMENT 374521 helpful negative off topic

2013-02-14 04:36 PM

Dork factor? Yeah. The Trikkes are real cool and will inspire fear in the hearts of criminals around the city.

HAHAHAHAHAHAA CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS IN ACTION HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Cam refuses to give the moto-cops appropriate, SAFE pants due to them looking "unprofessional" and "not commanding respect" but will let them ride glorified tricycle scooters! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA oh god I can't add enough HAs!!!!

If they move faster than a human can run and have a decent range than I welcome them to the quiver of law enforcement tools. Much cheaper than additional cars and far greater visibility for the officers to see what's happening.

They may look silly but for the crooks who get chased down and arrested by a trikke-bound cop the silly factor won't make much difference.

Yamaha 400 DRZ's motorcycles or 250cc Vespa's would have been a better fit for Santa Barbara...

Really?

They should have waited until April 1st to announce this.

Will they ride on the sidewalks?

COMMENT 374492 helpful negative off topic

524 - The top speed is about 20 mph, much faster than most people. The average person can only run about 11 mph.

Some drunken fool is going to try to steal one of these while the peace officer is not looking. I know I would.

Soon, they're gonna be riding skateboards and roller blades....

COMMENT 374606P helpful negative off topic

I actually think they have a lot of advantages over bikes. And cars in certain instances.

If they really wanted to go green, they could have gone with the Brammo all electric motorcycle like the Ashland, OR police department did. No they aren't used in high speed pursuits, but they are great for patrolling around town.

What is a "high profile" area for heaven's sake!?

COMMENT 374648 helpful negative off topic

2013-02-15 08:46 AM

My first thought is that the first time an officer dismounts one of these things to take a report from a witness of victim the trike will get stolen.

Are they going to ride these in the street or on the sidewalks? I just don't see how these things could be any better than a bicycle. Plus, if I were a crook and some cop started "chasing" me on a trike, I'd have a hard time running while laughing!

COMMENT 374685 helpful negative off topic

2013-02-15 10:34 AM

Looks like they are pretty high off the ground so good for checking out the area. Also like Shorebird said Im glad they used a local company.

Thanks Cops!

It just needs some cool cop lights and a siren and they're set!

COMMENT 374691 helpful negative off topic

2013-02-15 10:53 AM

Criminals won't have a chance! It's hard to run when you're laughing at what's chasing you...

Serious question, why can't the Police walk in high profile areas? If you are chasing a criminal through a crowd, you must be faster on foot, than trying to not hit someone on a trikke. And if mobility around the area is an issue, put them on bikes... and not $4k bikes!

COMMENT 374715P helpful negative off topic

2013-02-15 11:37 AM

Better policing is done on foot. Less distance between the police and the policed. Cheaper too.

I said this before when Segways were considered, but Paris "flics" on rollerblades are fast, agile, and not at all dorky. Quite the opposite, be still my heart!

@374478

No, you did not see Das riding around on one of these ... the Trikke he rides isn't motorized.

But 8K? Nuts.
