YIN YANG, Thanks for your comment. Sometimes I do wonder if he gets irritated when others submit news - based on comments in the past, and a current one on another thread asking something about someone taking his job... Roger's reports are fantastic and always appreciated. They have made this site an invaluable resource and they are one of the best sources of news in Santa Barbara!

I don't get it. I was reading about some hikers stranded and found and transported by amr and quite frankly expected the usual gripes about rescuing hikers and got posts a plenty about Roger and how he posts the posts. What's up with that? Roger provides excellent coverage and information about many things we would never hear about if we only got our news from KEYT & the SBNP.

No complaints about people that were apparently completely unprepared for a trip to the back country, no asthma medicine, cars that get stuck in mud, etc, etc, costing the County taxpayers a bunch of money for their rescue? At least someone should post pictures and their names so they might be a little embarrassed about their adventure and think twice about doing it again.

@ 166, What and who are you talking about? @ 186 Incorrect. A health practitioner can not reveal private information, but a citizen or reporter relaying information observed personally or received from a trusted source of events occurring in the public is perfectly legal.

Ummm..Hello! Call AAA. I did and I got the tow truck driver to winch out my freightliner! Otherwise throw everything you got, floor mats ect. under the correct tires, or push each others' car out one by one, except no pushing for the guy with the asthma.

@294 - ummm...Hello! Considering it took numerous Search and Recuse personnel, a battalion chief and Engine 13 forty minutes to move the patients from where they were the short distance up the hill and to where the ambulance was parked at the gun club, I think you are presuming it was much easier than it was in reality.

Troubling that the helicopter wasn't available. The helicopter also wasn't available for firefighting duties about a month ago. In that case Ventura County was contacted for a firefighting helicopter that in the end wasn't needed. Maybe it's time (before fire season really begins) to look at which agency can best manage the County's helicopter.

Helicopter(s) were available for service, if needed. Like 663P says, wasn't needed in the end. The current agency handling county aviation seems to have safety in mind, not concerned firefighters looking for their helicopter fix.

If a potentially dangerous fire breaks out and the Sheriff doesn't have the firefighting helicopter available, is it even worth having the copter? Hopefully, 904P's attitude is not the the Sheriff's attitude. Because if it is, we the taxpaying public are in a heap of trouble if the Sheriff can over ride the fire commanders on the scene.

I believe that 904's comments are that of not sending a helicopter to every broken nail on a trail or every BBQ with a little smoke. Even if the attitude is that of the Sheriff, I seriously doubt a helicopter would be held back if absolutely needed.
