Interesting to see the fire engine on what looks like the closed (except to bicycles) part of Channel Drive. That road should never have been closed, but should have had land taken from the property to the north when the cliff was eroding.

I'm sure if you were the property owner of the land to be taken you might feel differently.

047, taking private property so you can drive your car along a natuarally eroding cliff. Come on, really? I wish they would close all of Channel Drive to cars. Rename it Channel Walk.

Now would be a great time to remove that aggressive invasive, Arrundo Donax, from that hillside!

There would not have been even a bike path, much less the lovely landscape to enjoy, had Ty Warner not stepped up to pay for both the bike lane and the landscape.

If the road was still there, you could expect all southbound traffic coming off Cabrillo Blvd to clog the road rather than drive through CVR to the 101 S on-ramp.

The bike path turned out to be a very nice solution.

What was the cause of the fire?

No question that not having that through road to the beach changed things. A lot. I love riding my bike along there, but I don't think Ty Warner provided the landscaping out of the goodness of his heart. And having to drive all the way around in a car is a total pain in the rump.

There used to be a heck of a lot less watering and maintenance going on, cliffside, as I recall. Now, you can go by there any day, everyday, during the week, and see the "gardeners" at work.

You can't see the ocean as well as you once could, either.

I have a friend who pitches fits every time we bike past Ty's place. She's right. He has installed a jungle, which requires gawd knows how much water. It looks green, but I wonder how much water is wasted there, each and every day.

091: . BTW, it's Arundo donax. One 'r.' LIzards sure seem to like it. Personally, I no problem with removal of invasive species, so long as it is done without using pesticides.
