For some reason I pictured Jupiter being bigger than the moon..

Because, RD, it is.

Jupiter is 11 times as large as our earth, and the earth is 3x the size of its moon. But as people thought the sun rose and set while we were stationary, so the appearance of Jupiter, a bright dot next to the moon does not show its true size. Seeing may be believing but it's not necessarily truth as inaccurate eye witness testimony often reveals. :)

It's perception...the way we are layed out from each other. Jupiter is so far, she looks like a itty bitty rock. But put her next to us, and she's a beast!

Fantastic image...saw it too last night and wondered if that was Jupiter.

Do you guys think we'll ever pilot spaceships around our galaxy like we do planes in the sky?

Thanks,
Doug

Nice shot.

11 times is the diameter difference. In volume, about 1300 Earths would fit inside Jupiter, squished out of round for better packing.
