Obviously the able to work population in this nation outnumbers the jobs available. I cringe at the harsh words. But they don't suprise me. Being heartless is an epidemic, right along with the growing numbers of homeless. If you feel justified in your remarks, then I feel sorry for you.

"Transient" and "felony probationer" from Eureka. Sheesh!! Ship him back and get some proper vagrancy laws back on the books. Think of the old saying by police when moving hoboes out of town - "He's getting the bum's rush." And DON'T come back!

Seeing the name "Dusty McGrew" in the list of police, I wonder how many McGrews there are in the police department. It's a relatively unusual name and I wonder are they all the same highly respected family of Mike McGrew?

Likely lead poisoning as a child ... it interferes with development of the pre-frontal cortex that governs social behavior (among other things).

I don't think Dusty is related by blood, I'm pretty sure it's a coincidence. Warner was the Fire Chief years ago, not police. Mike is his son and is a cop.

Just because he's "from" Eureka doesn't mean the City of Eureka bears some responsibility for him. It's a free country. He's here now, he's ours.

My emotions are mixed. I have come to the realization that most homeless have a family somewhere that have abandoned them for some reason or another. Then there are the ones who are truly ill and need our help. Years ago when I was on a task force, it was brought out that the homeless are made up of 1/3 truly sick people ,1/3 those who knowingly, are habituate and 1/3 those who truly are members of society who choose their life styles voluntarily. I am inclined to be no good at disciplining anyone. Tough love does help but then who is to administer it. I have a dog who is quickly teaching me how to behave and my daughter has one, governed by tough love that is truly a gem and behaves beautifully, understands every spoken word and tries to please. Time will tell which is right and which is wrong. For now I believe the problem with society is that many are waiting for love to kick in as the solution while others feel that tough love is the answer and there are few who know how to administer it.

Mike Mc Grew is the son of Werner and cousin of Dusty also known as Dangerous Dan Mc Grew or so I think. The families are related. Mike has been through hell with the death of his son and Illness of his father Kurt. He is now a sergeant on the Police force and is a dedicated servant of the community. We are lucky to have him and others that serve us well.
