Poinsettias do remarkably well along the coastal zone when planted in a sunny location against a warm wall. They do get very bushy and tall--you can do some midsummer pruning to get them to branch out a bit shorter (and have more 'blooms'). Have never seen any but the red ones. Would be fun to try with a Jingle Bells or Monet!

Only ever knew tall Poinsettias, before they were reduced to pot plant size for commercial use.

When we moved into our house, the woman who lived in it before over the years planted her poinsettias which became hedges. Had to take them all out because they ended up looking all gangly. Pretty blossoms, but not so great the rest of the year.

Yes, our first house on W. Micheltorena had two in the back yard, one red and one white.

Yes, on Micheltorena between De La Vina and Bath--I think I planted it, sometime between 1990 and 1997....

My poinsettas are about 10 ft. They came from a Montecito estate about 75 yrs ago, a friend gave me slips when he was cutting his back; his father was a gardner who got the orginals. They need to be cut way back when through blooming, poke the sticks into the ground and they grow beautifully. The little potted ones don't do as well as the old fashioned kind.

When I lived in Mexico, there were poinsettia plants 15 - 20 feet tall. Very colorful when blooming.

Growing up off Walnut lane (between Turnpike and Patterson) we had about a dozen poinsettas along a warm wall (as the first responder noted) that would grow every year to be 10-12' tall. We would prune them back annually to their stumps which were about the size of a small fire hydrant and they would grow back taller every year.

My mother's were always about 10 feet tall.
