The former Miramar Hotel blight is being removed before our eyes. I can't think of a more beautiful way to clean up that stretch of beach than the removal of these decrepit structures.

Photo shows more cottages still need demolishing. Let's hope Mr. Caruso isn't stalling on complete removal because he's angling with the County about the occupancy tax forgiveness deal.

Full speed ahead on demolition!

What amazes me is the millions and millions in revenue that was lost by not keeping the hotel in operation until it was ready to be torn down. Hard to believe the fiscal waste.

It's a way of life here. California Hotel. Cabrillo Hotel. Miramar.

Well. The old timey look and feel are gone. R.I.P. hotel where my mom waitressed in the 50s, where I got swimming lessons, where my High School held its reunion, where my family and I ate so many fun meals.

So long to quaint bicycle-delivery meals and end-of-an-era gentlemen like Grover Barnes. And Jacques, the character of all characters. Adieu.

25 years ago I worked at SYR, then the Biltmore and the El Encanto for a decade. All have gone through major renovations, but nothing like the Miramar. It's gone.

Thank heavens the ugly two-story buildings on the boardwalk are being torn down; they were ugly the year they were built in the 60s. It was so much nicer when little cottages with small lawns and flowers were on the boardwalk.

Now; from the freeway....it is even more apparent just how tiny a parcel this is....especially considering that the railroad runs right through it.

It blows me away to think that there is still hope to construct a "world-class hotel" (by modern definition...) on such a site.

Who are they kidding?

It was successful for years in an "it is what it is" sense.....but times have changed. I'm glad it's not my money that's at stake.
