Hi Poster - thank you for sharing these! I was married to Richard Risor (he passed away a couple of years ago) .Can you see if he is pictured in the '57 yearbook? He never had a copy and graduated in 1957.
Thank you in advance - I would love to see the picture if there is one

I'm a little confused. I don't think the Earle Ovington in the 1931 O&G is the same Earle Ovington who made flight history, considering that he was flying as early as 1911. I didn't know if Earle Ovington senior ever had a son, though. I knew his daughter, Audrey, for years and she never said anything about having a brother. The 1931 Ovington is obviously part of that family, though.

Also, the Airport terminal was recently named for the local judge who gerrymandered city annexation for airport property, which is a travesty--it SHOULD have been named in honor of Ovington.

Question... how many HS seniors in this day and age know how to tie a necktie?

Regarding the photo of "Sammy Battistone" shown in the 1957 O&G, this would be Sam Battistone's son. Note the date cited as Sam's birthdate. Born in 1913 and a member of the senior class of 1957 would make him 43 years-old when graduating from Santa Barbara High School. Sam was a dear friend of mine and I knew him to be very intelligent; I'm certain he was not fresh out of high school when I first met him and working in Sambo's corporate offices! However, his son, "Sammy" graduated from SBHS in 1957.

Wonderful thank you for sharing! To the poster wondering if another photo could be found, you might want to visit the Santa Barbara Genealogy Society library...they have a pretty extensive collection of SB yearbooks.

Many yearbooks are donated for the Planned Parenthood book sale, held in September every year, so if you are looking for year books from local schools, private and public, as well as colleges and universities in many locations, you might find a copy at the sale. The 2013 dates are planned for September 19-29 at the Earl Warren Showgrounds.

Please contact the Santa Barbara High Alumni Association ("bbelfiore@aol.com) - Gloria at 687-9957!

The group stores and resells back copies to grads who have lost theirs. Anyone else with old O & Gs that need a home can do the same.

Would be terrific if you would let the group know!

A member of the SBHS library staff told me a couple of years ago that they also have an extensive collection of O&Gs. I'd assume that the public can come in and look at them.

REXOFSB, I just checked the 1930 census and see that Earle Ovington did indeed have a son named Earle, as well as his daughter Audrey.

I see someone has cleared up the Sam Battistone confusion already. No photo of Cros in '57 book - - he wasn't at SBHS that year. Cate, maybe.

I'm a member of the SBHS Class of '57. We celebrated our 55th year class reunion in September with a luncheon at the University Club and a BBQ at Goleta Beach. Sam Battistone (Jr.) attended with his spouse. He lives in Las Vegas. David Crosby was not a member of our class. His bio indicates he attended Crane Country Day School and Laguna Blanca. He was born in August, 1941 so would probably have graduated from high school in 1958 or 1959.

In the 1955 O&G you can find a picture of Chuck Schwab...

He was my physics lab partner and refused to write up any of the labs we did. Only years later I discovered why...Dyslexic!!!

As far as I know he may have come to a reunion many years ago but hasn't done so for many years.

Hung out w/David Crosby in Montecito. He's my age and I graduated in 1959. Fun to see these old pictures. Sam Azar is listed there above Battistone (head cut off); I have a picture of Sam and me in a play, Cinderella, at the Alacama Theatre, we were about 10 or 11. Mrs. O'Sullivan put on the children's plays.

1957 was my sisters class at SBHS. Keith Berry, long time local realtor, (pictured below Sam Batistone) is very active in organizing and even hosting the 1957 class reunions. They just had their 55th reunion.

Note that Edna Ludang got Ward Kimball (class of '32) to sign her book in the upper right corner. Ward Kimball went on to become a well-known cartoonist with Walt Disney. My mother was in his class. I have a picture of one of the 1932 class reunions -- in the 50's I think -- in which Ward is being quite the cut-up.

To the classmate who was married to Richard Risor, yes his picture is in the 1957 Olive and Gold. I'm class of '55 and my wife is class of '57.Hope this helps.
