Paid administrative leave? Innocent until proven guilty, right? But maybe he'll get paid state accomodations. Either way we pay.

Is there anyway to add some extra years to molesters time when they are involved with the Child Care Industry? I know we give gang-bangers an added sentence for being in a street gang. Where am i wrong?

Also....how about a little LIE DETECTOR screening before we give them the keys to our childrens future!

Um, people ARE innocent until proven guilty. If you don't like that, I consider a move to the deep south or north....deep enough that you're out of US territory.

I'm not saying this guy is innocent or guilty, but we have a judicial system that rivals most in the free world. And one you'd be happy to take advantage of if you were ever accused of a crime.

443, all employees of public schools must submit to a livescan fingerprint and background check. In fact, all employees must pay for it too. Volunteers who work on public school campuses must also pay for and complete the same livescan fingerprint and background check. Not sure what a lie dectector would do, that this protocol doesnt.

Paid administrative leave seems crazy though...

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged [if we judge with an evil heart or dark intent, His judgment of us will reflect it; if we judge nobly with honesty and justice, His judgment of us will reflect that, too], and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you [if we use extremes or exaggerations or other ignoble means, His judgment of us will reflect it and judging with fairness and compassion will garner likewise in His judgment of us]."

353447: paid leave during the investigation seems crazy? Perhaps he has no priors. I'm sure you'd love to receive your paycheck while you fight to prove your innocence, if you were accused and imprisoned. Lawyers ain't cheap, living in Carp/SB ain't cheap.

Innocent until proven guilty, people. I know molestation sounds grossly horrible. But we are all citizens... Let's remember our civility. Perhaps if he's found guilty the school can sue him later to recoup the paychecks?

My point was, the taxpayer ends up footing the bill regardless. Plus someone's being paid to cover his classroom while he's being paid to not teach during the court process. I wasn't commenting on the judicial system or his guilt or innocence, per se. And maye there's no other way to handle it but to pay twice for the class(es) to be covered since his guilt is not determined. It just pisses me off, is my point.

If all who were arrested were guilty as charged, we wouldn't need a Court system, would we?

So much for a fair trial and a verdict by one's peers. It sounds as though this man has already been tried and judged by a few peers on here.

How do we know he is a child molester? We know nothing.

Of course a teacher is fully scrutinised before employed.

He is on paid leave because it would be unfair otherwise.

Why punish a person before you know the truth?

442 - settle down, amigo! The Carp Unified has asked an employee to not come to work while they do some investigation. That is a reasonable thing. An accused deserves due process, and not paying a teacher while the district investigates allegations is preserving the employee/employer relationship. Think of it this way - it's like sick pay. The teacher isn't fit for the classroom (until charges are investigated) - they are out on sick leave.

Rincon is a CONTINUATION HIGH SCHOOL whose students are not going to regular public school for one reason or other, but at the risk of being un-politically correct, I think it's a safe observation that many of its students have psychological problems, some pretty major. It is not at all unheard of for psychologically disturbed children and teenagers to level some pretty awful accusations against teachers, and many of those accusations are later proven unfounded. Let's not crucify anyone just yet.

REX I was at risk when I was a kid and while you are right in a way At Risk kids don't always lie. Many times people in a position of authority take advantage of it...Hopefully it will all come out in the wash I think most of us are mature enough not to bring in the W.C. Just yet.

The process will sort out his guilt or innocence as for paid leave they are still trying to get the teacher who served his fluids on crackers to elementary kids off the payroll. The rules are the rules and they won't change and yes it does appear Das Williams helped keep it that way.

Yeah a lot of people see at-risk youth as easy prey... but it could be the other way and someone could be making up a story. I guess that time will tell once the proof is submitted to a judge. Until then, we can't determine anything, there are no facts here.

WC means wood chipper, from the movie Fargo.

I personally knew a HS teacher who was falsely accused of inappropriate conduct by a pissed off student he'd disciplined. Innocent until proven guilty, while on paid administrative leave while they investigate, is the only prudent course here. Remember the lies in the McMartin pre-school case? There are numerous teachers accused of inappropriate conduct who never did anything wrong. People tend to over-react to even the accusation of child abuse -- which is probably appropriate. But we need to remain skeptical, because there are a lot of false accusations and troubled kids, esp. in continuation high school.

Misdemeanor child molestation can mean many things... We should wait to hear more cos those charges ARE quite damming. It is so difficult not to rise to the bait and get all up in arms about... What? We don't really know yet. It must be grave for an arrest to have been made, but there's always MORE to these stories than initially meets the eye.

Please let's have some level headed conversation here. The teachers are background checked. A lie detector test, while sometimes useful as an investigative tool, cannot be used to the determine the guilt or innocence of a person. Furthermore, this is America and we don't give lie detector tests to people just to see if we think they are nice people. The school has done the proper thing in placing the teacher on paid leave. If the teacher goes to trial and is found innocent he would be able to litigate the school for all sorts of things. They are covering themselves, and you by the way. If they have to pay a multi-million dollar settlement for discriminatory practices guess where that money will come from? Finally there are many, many instances of mentally disturbed students making such claims against their teachers in retribution for some discipline they have received. So rather than judging, why not let our legal system, the best in the world despite it's flaws, find the truth and administer, if warranted, the appropriate justice.

One is not 'innocent until proven guilty'. The correct term is 'presumed innocent'.

MW dictionary: 3 : to suppose to be true without proof

542, were that an true recital of the law - and it's not - it's pointing to distinction without a difference. Are you troubled by our justice system in as much as it endeavors (feebly) to protect innocent people from a very obvious groundswell of public hatred for certain types of crimes over others? Maybe you're just a contrarian and/or a wannabe lawyer. Regardless, were it a crime to be any of the above, you are still innocent. Cherish that.

The dude was arrested so an investigation by the cops showed enough evidence to think that they needed to start the trial process. Maybe the DA will decline to prosecute, who knows? Most of these guys are stupid enough or want to be caught enough to take pictures and send text messages so it has been easy to put them away.

If he is convicted of a sex crime he will have to register as a sex offender and stay away from children the rest of his life, after he gets out of jail. It's a pretty extreme punishment so I am satisfied with how the system is working in those cases.

Teen-aged girls CAN be conniving and manipulative. IF the girl in this case doesn't like her teacher and is lying to get him in trouble, it would not be the first time that type of thing had happened. IF the teacher violated the student, this would not be the first incident of that type either. An investigation should establish whether or not the teacher was inappropriate with the student.

How about this: paid administrative leave until the issue of guilt or innocence is determined. If a teacher is convicted of any crime against a child in the course of their employment, they should be ordered to pay back to the school district for the paid leave, as with a criminal restitution. Alternatively, employees on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a criminal case could collect unemployment, as with a temporary layoff.

"Paid administrative leave seems crazy though... "

What do you suggest instead? The alternatives are to have him keep actively teaching, or to fire him without just cause (there's only just cause if he's convicted).

It would be nice if justice were prompt. We can probably expect a couple years before this ever comes to trial. During that time the accused will continue to draw full pay. And during a trial you must get every juror to agree, so a single holdout can block any punishment.

Paid leave??? Maybe his pay should be put into an escrow account and not be transferred to him until and if deemed innocent. No, as I write this, he is not guilty until proven otherwise. I am guilty of surrendering to my first inclination.
But if guilty, brand a "CM" on his forehead.
