I had a question about my water bill and went to city hall offices to talk to someone. Must have been about 30 office workers doing absolutely nothing. I saw one person looking at Facebook on computer when I tried to find someone to talk to. Most of these people are paid 40 hours of work a week to do a job that only takes 8 hours a week to do. So, good news is that these services will not be missed or have any impact. Bad news is that we still have them on payroll.

@782 - This story is about a furlough that was instituted for County employees. When you went to City Hall to pay your water bill, you were dealing with City employees. Perhaps you should re-read the story and look for clues about what arm of the government the story is about, beginning with the title of the story. Re-read to learn that it was the Board of Supervisors who aproved the closures, the fact that the mandatory furlough will not close down departments such as the Sheriff's Dept., Public Health, Social Services, the Clerk-Recorder/Assessor's Office...etc. There are numerous clues that this is not a story about the City or the people who work at the water billing department. Too bad you just wanted to slam someone so badly that you failed to think first. Your opinion doesn't count for much when you don't even know what you're talking about.

Wow - didn't realize employees at the City's water department read EdHat. I think the poster's point is that our federal/State/county/city is government is bloated - unlike the private sector. So - these furloughed workers will have no impact on the work that gets done - since in many cases there is no work to be done. Only people who disagree are the people who have cushy government jobs with no accountability.

@ 782 - You ARE the poster! And you didn't have your fact's straight when you first posted, so now you're posing as a new poster, speculating on what the first poster's point was. You obviously have a beef with the City water Dept. Like I said above, your opinion doesn't count for much when you don't even know what you're talking about.
