Is it possible that there is a "serial pusher" in this town?

Serial pusher? Really? People party out there on those cliffs and fall off all the time. Parents send their children off to college without a clue of what their limits are with alcohol or how to recognize the danger of drugs, both with themselves and with their friends. There are many clueless students at UCSB who lived in a bubble until they started school and suddenly find themselves surrounded by party and temptations they haven't dealt with before. And partying + cliffs are a bad combo :(

The kelp beds are a good ways offshore from the bluffs in IV. It's almost certainly far too soon to simply assume this person fell off a cliff while partying in IV. They could've just as likely fallen off a boat.

Kelp is farther out than seems reasonable for falling off the cliff. Maybe someone tried to go for a swim and got into trouble.

980P how exactly should parents prep their kids so that they know their limits with alcohol??

980P here - Parents need to talk to their kids, educate them and get them drunk at least once in the safety of their own home. We teach them to balance their checkbook, how to cook and to do their laundry (well some of us do) but alcohol and drug education is not something many parents do, they think that their kids are good and won't experiment. NOT TRUE! They need to be taught that just the same as safe sex, etc. It IS up to parents to make sure that their kids know how to be safe when they go out into the world as young adults... otherwise they will learn the hard way and the hard way can kill.

968,yes, there's a serial pusher. His name is Mr. Drug E. Alcohol. Now, don't get me wrong. I am not saying (unlike others here will undoubtedly do) that anyone who falls from the cliffs due to intoxication deserves their fate, but there have been many, many deaths over the decades from this exact combination of inebriation and cliff edge. There have also been some suicides, but the majority of deaths have been simple accidents fueled or caused by drugs or alcohol. If there's any left over barrier supplies, I have a suggestion for where they can put them....

Some of these comments are so breathtakingly cruel that it's hard to even comprehend. I just read the facebook account of someone who had been in the ER today and heard the 'unhuman' wails of a mother who had obviously just lost a child. My friend was drained to the core with sadness for this woman, so I came to edhat to see if perhaps there had been a terrible accident and found this. I don't know if it was this young mans mother in the ER losing her mind, but I don't doubt that somewhere there is a mother whose world has just collapsed upon itself. Please. Take a step back from your rancidness and have some compassion.

Isla vista is ranked one of the top party colleges on the scale and while that is highly publicized does anyone out there suggest/ know/ or agree that it also has the highest crime and death rate? Why isn't that ever brought up...just curious.

988, The injuries sustained were indicative of a large fall. The kelp does come in with the tides, and the tides do go all the way up to the bluff. You really think he sustained those injuries hitting the water from a boat?

Unfortunately, another student has died off these cliffs. Seems like every year the UCSB student body experiences these deaths that are, for the most part, due to lack of judgement and alcohol or drugs. This year, it seems, is no different than any other...pity.
