I wonder if they have questioned the hikers that were there at the time?

My first thought was that someone had dropped a cigarette butt. (Or maybe a tiny flake of a spark off a joint?) Who knows? Doubt if we'll ever know on this one.

Just glad it was kept to two acres and then contained.

Stupid humans. If it's not lightning, it's humans.

@696 Yep, hope they got the names of the hikers they rescued.

Thought they were so sure it was the guy out walking his dog. " Witnesses saw him," they said. What happened to that?

Around noon on Election Day we were en route to the Montecito 'Y' when a USFS vehicle with siren on charged up the road. We looked up in to the hills and saw smoke and flames. How impressive that the response was so immediate. We saw the planes and copters taking action. We musn't take the beauty of our area for granted and credit needs to be given to all of those who saw to it that the Cold Fire was short-lived.

Yes, what happened to the "suspect" that was apprehended? Hispanic in white teeshirt or something to that effect? Was he a poor innocent, in the wrong place at the wrong time?

With the exception of a lightening strike, all these fires are directly related to human activity...
