" @494, I made my donation to help Sandy's victims days ago. Luckily, I have enough good fortune to be able to make a donation to both causes." Same here. First of all, CONGRATULATIONS to an impressive and inspiring group of young people. THESE kids make me feel positive about the future of our country! And extra congrats to Madeline - whoo hoo! I can't wait to see what your future holds! Dos Pueblos is one amazing school! Principal Shawn Carey, Mock Trial team coach Bill Woodard, Engineering Academy founder and director Amir Abo-Shaeer and so many others create a truly world caliber education. Our two kids were fortunate to attend DP and it is with great pride that my husband and I will be making a donation to help the Mock Trial team at this time. GO CHARGERS!!!

494? I see your point, but this is a group of incredibly hard-working students who have accomplished something truly remarkable-- they finished 2nd in a world championship invitational using their brains. The whole community should support students like this. Can you imagine the celebrating and publicity an athletic team would receive if it accomplished something commensurate? And these kids already had to raise $20,000 to travel there in the first place. Now they have $8000 more in expenses. I say it's a great way to show our support by helping out these local kids who have made us all proud!

494 really? While I agree with helping those affected by the hurricane. These are local kids whose funding is not only limited but like all the extras (music, art and sports) are having major cuts. I don't feel like these should be considered extras but that is the sad reality. I'm thinking we have enough positive energy and $$ to help a little for both. Keep in mind they aren't asking its local folks who care about our community doing so.

While considering donating to these kids, please remember that they returned to their homes which were not flooded, damaged or burned to the ground. Perhaps our positive energy and donations would be better served going to people whose lives were turned upside down and severely affected, rather than those who were inconvenienced by an extended trip and some extra expenses.

I will add that even though I am a DP parent, each of the three high schools have excellent programs for our students in a wide array of fields. Whether it's San Marcos's outstanding performing arts, or Santa Barbara's new culinary arts program, all the schools have great things to offer our students.

Thanks for the info, @433. Here's the link for the donation page in case anyone else wants to donate this way: http://www.gofundme.com/senddpmocktonyc My daughter was in the DPHS Jazz Choir many years ago and I remember how hard it was to raise money to send them to the jazz festivals and competitions. Glad to help out this great school!

With all the talent that seems to come out of DP, it's hard to believe that the school is ranked well over 500 in the nation.

You can send a check made out to Dos Pueblos High School to: Dos Pueblos High School Mock Trial Team Attn: Bill Woodard 7266 Alameda Avenue Goleta, CA 93117 They also set up an online donation page before they left for NY. Google: Send Dos Pueblos Mock Trial to New York and you should find it. You can donate via credit card to that site.

Congrats to the DP Mock Trial team. Well done. It's an experience that will produce a lifetime of memories. My family is made up of very proud "Royals". Without comparing the strengths of our wonderful SB high schools (like...like a previous poster), I'm going to make a donation to help offset the costs of the extra days in Brooklyn.

DP is just too awesome a school. My son's class had like 14 national merit scholars and like SBHS had 2 and San Marco 1. Just a great school and we haven't even mentioned the Engineering group doing so well. Great job by them and DP in general.

Please consider giving a small amount to this team. The costs to stay the extra time was in excess of $6000.00.

I thought there was also a boy on the team. At least on KLite radio the other morning they talked about a boy on the team.
