We are seniors on limited income, both voted Yes on 30 believing an educated people is paramount to sustaining our democracy. We used to have the best and most accessible educational system in the country. We got educated well and have contributed back to our community substantively on that support from the community and state colleges. Please do us all a favor and vote Yes on 30.

338323 I think by actually researching the district not only for 30 but for our local bond measures and seeing the reports by the state agency I've probably done more research than most. Instead of just saying "its for the kids" or "no new taxes" and voting that way at least I am paying attention. I may not finally know until I look at the ballot but at least I am paying attention to the issues. And you are free to have your opinion personally I think California's problems are due to people only voting party line and anything that sounds good. Hows that bullet train look now but it sounded like such a good idea.

Voted Yes on 30, No on 32. California is currently 44 out of 50 states on spending per student--one of the lowest education budgets in the nation. When I went to school and then college many years ago, my parents and their parents paid the taxes that paid for the schools that paved the way for my success. What kind of hypocrite...what kind of horrible, soulless, hate-filled creature...would I be if I didn't pay it forward? Prop 98 (passed in 1988) guarantees that the money will go to schools, the lies of the anti-government, anti-American types notwithstanding.

You can also vote early at the county elections office. No need to request and wait for an absentee ballot. As for Prop 30, I vote no on every tax and bond measure. Period. I don't care if it's free bus passes for war widows. I've been voting that way since I was old enough to vote. If you think SBCC deserves more money, write them a check. You can even donate to specific programs at SBCC through their foundation. Heck, you don't even need to write a check. The foundation's website takes donations via credit card.

260- You have obviously not visited many of our public schools. There is a reason my children sat through half a day of class spoken in Spanish until 3rd grade. ESL is huge at all levels. We are spending enormous time and resources educating non-citizen children whose parents do not contribute. Teachers and classrooms would be adequately funded if so much money did not go to Admin in the school system and we made certain the children attending our schools had a legal right to those services. Until we do some major house cleaning in both areas I will not vote yes to additional funding for schools or government.

Anyone who votes YES on 30 because they think it will provide money for education is going to be sorely disappointed. Nothing in the fine print of the measure forces Sacramento to spend a single extra penny on education. If it is education you want to fund then you are better off voting YES for 38.

Perhaps we can't solve the schools' problems by throwing money at them but we can certainly compound their problems by taking money away. I mailed in my ballot and voted yes on 30 and I'm proud of it. I also voted no on 37 because as much as I agree with the concept that GMO foods should be labeled, 37 is a terrible way to go about doing it. How about a simple designation on the nutrition label?

Huge surge of illegal immigrants? You do know that there's actually been a net loss of illegal immigrants over the last four years, right? Record high deportations and poor economic conditions have both contributed.

I'm voting no on 30 and on any and all school tax measures because we can't solve the schools' problems by throwing money at them. California was in the bottom 5% of schools acadmically way hefore the current budget crisis. The schools have simply got to learn to live within their means, just like the taxpayers do. I also don't think that the huge surge of illegal immigrant children are helping our schools. VOTE NO ON 30 AND 38. Consider it "tough love."

I still can't decide on 30 I agree with 338223p that education is a good cause. I also did a google search on the district and enrollment and came up with the reports by groups who were brought in to analyze things. They all seem to say declining enrollment, duplication of some positions, etc and it doesn't seem the district has paid attention. I don't want to see people lose their jobs, but I also don't want to pay extra taxes because they are overstaffed in a district with declining enrollment. I'm tired of hearing we will lose music or another program when the reports by groups they brought in seem to show they could keep those if the staffed accordingly. I wonder how much of the if we don't pay more is just like the parks closing threat and then surprise the money was there. I think thats one I won't know what I will decide until I have the ballot in front of me.

All valid ballots are counted whether the count is close or not. Every valid vote is counted. Mail-in ballots are counted the same as on-site ballots. Provisional ballots are all counted. There is no back burner.

Great! Get those absentee ballots in before Tuesday so they'll get counted rather than being put on the back burner "in case a race is tight." Oh, vote a resounding NO on Prop. 30 and all the other "raise your taxes" measures. If you live in the Santa Ynez Valley, a NO vote is also needed to beat down a completely bogus high school bond measure (L) that will essentially never end & keep escalating fees.
